Did you see his pack of smokes left in the car? I thought the ad was kindda kool..........
nope, but here is what i notice...
i would assume the owner thinks it is valuable, because the guy was in a band, yadda yadda. then who is the tool who put skateboarding and such stickers on the bumper? makes no sense to me.
on the other hand, ive always wanted a bullet nose bird.

Very true. I just wanted to know if the guy or his band was popular. I hate ads like that too. Maybe he left a couple of farts in the seat for the new owner...................?

I saw this show last fall, The Rolling Stones, anyone ever heard of them? The lead singer was kind of old, but he got around pretty good for his age. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Damn, this all makes me sad. Im pretty sure Joe Strummer had plenty of unfinished business musicwise. I miss him too.
Oh and about the question about if "he and his band" was popular; what can I say. Its homework time... Also why on earth would anyone want to know if anything is popular?

"the only band that matteres"
I kind of feel sorry for the young and uneducated about some of the great bands of the punk movement. Before it became stale and "hardcore". No sense making fun for them not knowing. It's our fault for not keeping it alive to begin with.

God you guys live in the past!
Well, I guess that's to be expected, this is a board full of traditionalist.
The CLASH were great and innovative in their day. Real innovative and real great, but if they were coming up in the world of alternative and punk bands today with the same act, sound and songs that they had back then, they be a minor act at best.
What it comes down to is that they were great at a time. They were willing to do something no-one else was and they garnered a huge following for their art and eventually changed the way people thought about alternative and punk musice.
That's what makes them great.
So, when you tell some whippersnapper that doesn't know anything about the other music, politics, fashion and oppression that was around at the time. When you tell them to go listen to an album by Joe that you've talked up to be the greatest think since electric guitars and the whippersnapper comes back and says it was OK, but it seemed a little too slow, too melodic, and not as fast or hard or venomenous as he would like...make sure he know the back story.
Same thing goes for that busted metal we all work on.
Even this old Graybeard listens to (the) Clash

And let him understand the without the Clash, there most likely wouldn't be the faster, more venomous, harder sound that he listens to today.
To keep this remotely on topic. The car looks cool. I'd love to have it.

If you haven't done so yet, go pick up the new Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros album "Streetcore". Absolutely great driving music.
I still miss Joe.

63 T-birds don't do a lot for me but I usta enjoy The Clash.
Check the $745 bill. I can make out "brake fluid", so I'm thinking he got a brake job at some time. For that kinda money, it should be a really good one! Musta got new drums and cylinders etc etc.....

isn't selling a dead mans identity against the law? so it's a collectible doesn't mean you couldn't put on his sunglasses, light up one of his cigarettes, walk into a liquor store and pass a bad check written to him, i mean to you since you're now him. if you did this for a while you could probably get enough dirty money to buy his car! maybe you wouldn't even have to buy it. you could just say hey gimme my car back, don't you know who i am?

Modernbeat, I think you can say that about anything that was great in the past. However; its only a half truth. New is fine, but how good it really is can best be seen when the newness is gone. Will it still be played, sell, inspire and be copied, -then its still good. Clash definatly falls into that cathegory. Its a problem for the recordindustry these days that old music on new cd's persentage of the market is increasing fast. Not many enough really interesting, new and original recordings in other words.
I still find interesting new (non-retro) stuff, but man its not as easy as before.
I also bet there are a few bands (Katheters?) who whish they wrote London Calling...
looks like a nice car. ...but i'd never drive something just because someone owned it. especially joe... it just doesn't seem right to me. if i want to remember him, i'll throw on some music.
met him two years ago at the hottenanny. nicest guy i met all day. i just thanked him for giving me something to listen to. it was probably the first music i connected with as a teen. ...and maybe the reason i haven't connected with much since.

I watched a rather lengthy documentary about the blues on one of the edu channels. It seems like EVERYTHING musical came(evolved) from the early days of the blues.

Man, unless it was owned by Elvis, Mike Ness, or Travis from Blink 182 I could give a rat's ass less if a celebrity owned it.
And the only reason I listed the three above is because they've been known to own bad ass'd kustoms.

Mystery Train... Ahem... RULEZZZZ!
Great?Wierd fuckin movie. And Strummer is hilarious!
I really can't believe there are HAMBERZZZ that don't know who he is... That IS a little sad. Even more sad that people who idolize Mike Ness for whatever reason, don't know who Joe Strummer is.

Add me to the list...never heard of him, but that doesn't make me bad. Now if you need some trivia about Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, the Beatles, the Who, Free, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ten Years After, Alice Cooper, Carlos Santana, Bad Company,Allman Brothers, ELO, PInk Floyd, Roy Orbison, or many many others, give me a call. It's impossible to know EVERYONE who is good.
