Who makes them? The subject came up on another board and I piped in about how guys putting OHVs in shoeboxes in the fifties and suddenly it was "okay, smart guy, where do I get one?"

Hurst made them. I'm looking at a 1969 Motion Performance cataloge. Part # DLF-49 fits 49 - 51 Fords. Only $ 34.95!

I don't know where to buy them, but i had a parts car 50 ford with a homemade one in it. It looked like they welded gussets & pipe in a wide U shape to the center link and just cut the old straight section out.

Is it possible for anyone to scan a pic out of an old catalog? Curious how the aftermarket did it. I am thinking about going the Nova pan / pickup route for my shoebox but modifying a tie rod would sure be easier...

When we did my brother's '49 we bent the steering arm and the pitman arm down to clear the SBC pan, as per the Tex SMith book on Shoeboxes. We tried to find the dropped tie rod with out success. Bending the arms worked very well.

Not sure, but try Kanter or Jamco. Got my leaf springs from Jamco and real nice to deal with. For what its worth...
