Mods,if i am out of place please delete and accept my apologies

With that said,I joined the HAMB around two and a half years ago when there was around 42,000 members and i understand it has almost doubled and this is good.Has i recall if you did not put up your intro you would get your ass reamed out until you did.Now please don't get me wrong i am not trying to be the intro police, but now more often than not when i go to the classifieds to check out the adds it seems more often than not the fng's are very reluctant to post thier intro. It is risky enough these days to buy over the internet.but at least with an intro you will half ass know who you dealing with.......Theres my rant and to say the least my 2 cents worth

Hey, I am with you. Every try giving a gentle reminder to the FNG's to do an intro? About the best that can come from it is they ignore you. Sometimes you even get the PM form the FNG that asks if the letters F.O. mean anything. IMO too many of these losers join to sell something

I have reminded a few of the new guys that put up the first post trying to sell some major coin items just to save them the embarrassment

and if I was going to buy a high priced ticket item from you I would certainly look at all your posts and then who your "friends" are and PM a few of them to see if you were a stand up guy. I would never by from a FNG with a low post count and no friends. ;)

We'll all be kickin back when there are 200,000 people on here sayin "Remember back when there were 100,000 folks on here? Those were the days!"

With the popularity of the HAMB growing, and the lack of any other credible forum, expect more street rodderZ, bad boyZ, and the like.

you should do some background work first,

but

Just because its in the rules and I'm happy to be part of the H.A.M.B

that said ,

most of the time the FNG just act rude and act as if its owned to them

NOT to follow the rules....

The hamb has always had a tight knit core of people that are more or less friends with common passions and intrests... it used to be the only place you could meet like minded hard core traditionalists also known as the "one per-centers[tm]"

Guys that have HELLFIRE.

I think it stemmed from the idea that its polite to introduce yourself when you walk into someone else's garage...

Its hard to call a place yours until you start to contribute and invest in it...

I don't look at this like a normal forum... I don't think I ever have. Its one of a kind...

That doesn't mean you have too intro... just stand in the corner and keep to yourself.

I've been on forums where you can't post anything in classifieds until you hit a certain number of posts. It's usually low, 10-25 posts or so. I agree with BB about guys with one post listing stuff for sale, I don't like it and usually don't buy from them because I don't know anything about them. Keeps the spammers away too. I don't get too worked up about an intro, but do look at post count in all the classifieds.

I never did an intro BECAUSE of the assholes who feel some need to trash new guys who don't. I did however fill out my profile which I think is more important since so very few people even see your intro.

as for noobs selling things there is one guy who shall remain nameless who's only posts here were for selling items. even in the main board.

anywhere you buy on the internet from strangers you are rolling the dice. intro will make no difference at all.

IIRC they decided a while back to not require an intro to post in the classifieds.

I mean ultimately who do you hurt if you keep that requirement and some people choose to not post there because of it? Would you really rather have to look on eBay or something to find parts people are posting here instead because it's free and worldwide?

I just sold a bench today in the classifieds to a FNG ShileyM1956 who had 2 posts to his credit. A true stand up guy that was telling me he had tried to buy off the classfieds but couldn't get a response to his PM from the seller. Said the seller keeps posting new stuff and bumping his stuff up but won't respond to his pm's. I said it may be due to his low post count. I didn't have a real answer other than that.

Look on the flipside.

We had a guy join the H.A.M.B. about a year ago...wanting info on a Cammer-powered race car he had recently purchased. I politely suggested that he do an intro as it's tradition here & he might get slammed for not doing so...doing the intro might keep his thread on topic, without any drama...I wrote that the car sounded cool...no big deal. End of story, you'd think.

I promptly got slammed by a well-known long-time H.A.M.B.'er who said as far as he was concerned, anybody who owned a 427 SOHC didn't NEED to post an intro (IIRC "a fuckin' intro"). So apparently, having lots of cash = no intro necessary.

Don't think I've bothered to suggest doing an intro to a newbie since....

That stated, I do admit that I checkout the "New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!" sub-forum on pretty much a daily basis ... reading FNG's first posts are almost always entertaining! ... you can always tell when a guy has neglected to lurk here for awhile before making his first post. :D

I lurked long enough to know the rules, and my first post was my intro. Haven't tried to sell anything, and haven't spent any time over in the intro section. I've flagged a few classifieds with FNGs replying not PM'ing, and tried to flame one FNG in the trad spirit over what I felt was a really dumb post. I got the hook on that one, and it did sting. I was also proven right, but that's all behind me now. I put up the coin for my tag because I believe in this place, even though I'm a bit off of the mainstream.
The cred here is amazing, even though the stuff you have to wade through is getting thicker, like this long-ass post.

I lurked for a long time after seeing a HAMB post on another board the Ford Flathead V8..1932 to 1953 by BillB, anyway i did post a profile but not the intro.

no disrespect to this board or the ones that like to clown on the fng's intro's.

I have learned a great deal here, purchased an item, have not tried to sell anything.

purchased the alliance tag because the HAMB board has saved me time, money, and every thing that goes inbetween those two, purchased store items, helped out with Ryan's goal on HAMBANDY and even used the Alliance member ship to purchase an item from an Alliance Vendor.

all of my post are short, but hopefuly to the point that the person i am saying it to is cool with it.

intros aren't what they used to be. how many are questions or problems the newbie has instead of a brief description of themselves and vehicles. there was no intro section when i joined, but i was warned by friends to lurk awhile, get a feel for how the board works, post an intro and not do anything stupid as to draw germs fire.

I joined a year ago, have successfully sold parts here and I am still a FNG, only because I like to read more than post. My first post was an intro post, I joined my local HAMB group and I try to always play nice and by the rules. So I guess what I'm getting at is just because someone is new, doesn't post much or doesn't feel the need to share their background with complete strangers, doesn't mean they're not on the level.

It Is In The Rules: #5 & #6 And In The Guilelines #4

The HAMB is dedicated to spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and kustoms to hoodlums world wide. That’s right – TRADITIONAL. And we aren’t talking Beach Boys and poodle skirts here fellas. If you are into a-side 50’s pop, lawn chairs, ruler contests, and all things that make hot rodding warm and cozy then you might want to find another message board. If you aren’t sure what we mean by “traditional”, then you might think twice as well. If you’ve come here to set a rep, talk some shit, and make some fun then you had better turn around right now. We aren't patient.

Even if you have come here for all the right reasons, don’t expect posting to be easy. We don’t cater to new fellas unless they show a dedication to spreading this tradition of ours first. We welcome young, old, foreign and all – but our original members and our staff expect a certain level of respect and an effort to keep things true and on topic.

Maybe you are an old fart with a past. Maybe you are one of the guys that started this tradition we cherrish. We built this place for you and your posts mean the world to us. Hop on and introduce yourself. This is your board.

Still reading? Then you must be cut out for this, right? We recommend you read some more. Check out all the forums, develop an understanding for how things work around here, learn the “do’s” and “do not’s”… The key to a happy HAMB newbie is to understand the joint BEFORE you begin posting. You want to be happy don’t ya newbie?

We have very few written rules here on the HAMB and that’s the way we like it, but we won’t hesitate to dump disruptive posters, ego freaks, or shit talkers. We are all here to learn and teach - please keep your other perogatives on the sidelines.

Rules:
1. No profanity in subject lines
2. No political/religious/racial posts
3. No Porn.
4. All personal information listed on this board is private and protected. The HAMB does not sell this information and you are not privy to use it for your own reasons. Test us on this one and we will bite.
5. New Users must fill out thier profiles. Every bit that you can. Simply click on "User Cp" above and get to work.
6. New users must introduce themselves in the intro forum.

Guidelines:
1. If in doubt, don’t post it
2. Stay on-topic and relevant with your posts… OT posts aren’t generally appreciated by our membership.
3. Gotta easy question? Try using the search function first.
4. Your life here would probably be easier if you complete your profile and introduce yourself before jumping into the deep end...

Should we have a rating system for buying, selling? The Star system? I am like a lot of you, I have more crap than I need for my build. And I have changed direction finding or seeing something cooler than I already have. I just want to pass the stuff on, not make a living or a killing. Even if a guy is making money here it is hard earned. I just spent 3 hours building a box to ship a grill across the USA.(not a woodworker) I may loose a few dollars to make another HAMBER happy. my 2 cents

and if I was going to buy a high priced ticket item from you I would certainly look at all your posts and then who your "friends" are and PM a few of them to see if you were a stand up guy. I would never by from a FNG with a low post count and no friends. ;)

Denise, you are the queen of spelling...how do you spell BUY again? :)
