HELP! I have never raced at temple and have never owned a pair cheater slicks. So basically I need advice on what compound to get. This link is where I was my crazy ideas from.

So........little river isn't exactly known for having a great surface although the rumor is that it has improved. If the pie crust slicks advertised on the site you posted, are the tires you have in mind, I'll say now that most folks run em for looks, not performance.
What kinda car do you have? Do you make LOTS of power? Can your susp. system get it to the ground? What are your expectations?
If you are making any REAL power, "cheater slicks" won't help you much. But......you might put on a good show, & look good doing it;)

If you use race slicks you'll just chunk your pinion out on the track, I saw pictures on the net.

ive ran medium compound there and it seems to work best.

My car is a 50 plymouth coupe. Im not making much power yet, about 400 horse. I'm running a 9" ford with 3.50 gear and a locker. I have a Cal-trac type traction system. I think my problem is the 8" wide tires I got from the whitewall candy store and the 700R4 first gear. It probably would be a waste of money to buy slicks right now till I have more power.

You really wont know till you run it IMO if the cheater will hold.If i were you i would spring for a set of wrinkle walls and switch them out in the pits ,if you plan to race it much.Lots of people do this if they drive them to the track. My car has M/T 8.5 wrinkle walls and they are breaking loose in the middle of the track ,but my car has less weight in the rear than you 50 proly does.I dont think it would be a waste of money to get sum modern slicks to run on ,but its your call...

Guy's, Little River has been my home track for almost 20 years until I moved to KY.

I was there over the 2nd weekend in July racing. The track is smooth as a babys butt, and if they prep it right it is one of the quickest to the 60' around. Stanley said he claimed several gearsets, axles, and driveshafts since it was ground.

I was carrying the front for 40 or more feet in the heat last July, so it hooks..

Best ET 4.96 @ 143 mph at the River.

Good luck

Dave

PS, Stanley is currently in the hospital with pneumonia. So I have no idea who is prepping the track at this time.

Man Dcovey ,im glad to hear that the little river track is that sticky now.My car is not breaking the sound barrier ,but it really falls off on a track that isnt the best with the little tires.I havent ran there since '07 and i heard it was slick last year ,so i was wondering how well it is now since the redo .If cars are sticking high 4's in the 1/8 ,that should be plenty good for my needs .Thanks for the info...

To the OP, you ought to be able to make the car hook pretty well with the style traction bar you have. You will DEFINITELY benefit from a set of slicks, especially with that 700R4 first gear. With any kind of power at all, you will just annihilate a set of street tires. And with the 9", you should be fairly safe on any kind of sticky tire.

Hope that helps, sounds like you have a recipe for a fun, quick little ride!

Shocker,

The Texas Pro Stock crew was down earlier and they run in the low 4.0's , Nitro Altereds in the 3.xx. So if you can tune the suspension the track is there.. Hutch had the wrong crew in to grind the track the first time.. But he got the same bunch that grinds for IHRA and now it's nice..

To the OP and those who don't normally drag race, just a little warning about traction and street type cars. To much traction could hurt...I have seen a warmed up 289 mustang with a 9 inch spit the pinion out the front using M/T street strip tires when it dead hooked. It had a stock pinion support, so if you are going to do this with regularity I would spend a little and get some heavy duty parts in there. Like a "N" case and daytona pinion support at a minimum. Check out Mosier Engineering for the lowest cost..If the car isn't real heavy you should be good for a while though.

I hope you guy's have a good time, I know you will like the track surface..

That's what happened to the QC in the 3w last year....switched over to MH racemaster sticky tires....went "too" low on tire pressure....(grabbed real good...for a while:rolleyes:)....proceded to remove all of the pinion teeth and cracked the pinion shaft where the spur gears go on...broke part of the case....ouch!!!....now I am thrashing to replace all of the broken stuff and weld up the case....arghhh, are we having fun yet?
I guess this post would also fit in Rusty's "who's thrashing" post.

Wow, I thought you could rebuild a QC in less than 50 weeks. What are your labor rates? Ha Ha. We'll see you on Friday night.

Shoot Fire...Labor rates on the coupe are "like a negative number:rolleyes:"....No wonder I can't ever get ahead!!!
Actually had a few "other" projects/fun stuff/etc that got "priority"....that way I can turn "a project with plenty of time to complete:)"....Into a THRASH....I'll never learn, it seems!....and remember we are doing this for fun....hahaha
See ya soon

My appologise to DW then. Wish he would have shown the link.. I guess I may be a little thin skinned when it comes to posting information helping someone. I took his post as I didn't know what I was talking about. My bad..

No sweat. He was just funnin' with you because most folks here know about his kersplosion. That's why he used the little sarcastic smiley face.

Thanks for the heads up on the track condition. I'm glad they are getting the track in good shape.
