While wandering around in tractor supply today, was checking out their paint. Pricing was, quart, any color, $7.97
hardener $9.49

so, I figure, for like 30 bucks, I could paint the coupster and have enuf left for a 6 of PBR. Whats wrong with that.....Scott

Its cheap- and a plus is....in about 6 mos of exposure it will chalk/patina up like a 25 year old hot rod finish!Thats about the same[or better] quality paint most real hot rods were done in.......Remember DULUX? also there is a cheap paint job supply package on ebay - includes primer paint hardener and clear with activator- real cheap[acrylic urethane enamel]

patina is the hot thing now though!

im gonna use Implement paint for everything thats black, and save the color paint for the body.

but im in the minority on the HAMB, i like my cars shiny, just none of mine are there yet.

I stopped of at a buddy's shop yesterday and he details cars for people. We got to bullshitting about Chassis Black when he popped the hood on this low mileage '79 Camaro. I asked him what he used to detail the engine compartment and he told me it was all original but he uses some stuff that looks identical to that for detailing used car lot cars. He did the inside of some fenders for a truck while I was there...easy to spray and comes in a white gallon container with black letters on it (talk about generic). It wasn't shiny and wasn't actually flat either. Very very low sheen. He tells me that it is tough too. He pays $19.99 a gallon for it through his distributor! I'm gonna do my POS with the stuff.

Big Jim...that sticker is HILLARIOUS!!

Reminds me of an article I saw somewhere with lots of poorly translated product warnings on them, stuff like:

"Keep out of children" on a set of knives
"Open other end" on the bottom of a Coke bottle
"For indoor or outdoor use only" on a set of xmas lights

I've restored several old IH tractors(see my name) and have had really good luck with the paint from the IH dealers. It's called Ironguard, it runs around $60 a gallon with reducer for red paint. They also have some different other colors, a couple of offwhites and a couple different reds, black and yellow. Of course the tractors haven't been sitting outside so I can't say how it would handle the elements. I paint the sheetmetal with several coats and it shines up really great. If I knew how to uploads pics I'd show some of my results. I've got some friends that restore the enemies machinery(Johnny Doe)and they've had good results with the green and yellows.
