Would a 46 ford rear axle be good for my A project? How about the front straight axle? I got a line on these parts from a guy that retro rodded a 46 sedan and has these parts to get rid of. I wanted to upgrade the rearend with juice brakes but keep the transverse spring, and I hear alot about getting rid of the stock A banjo rear and getting something in the 40's. As far as the front axle would it work or should I be looking for something older???? Help! I'm going to look at these parts tomorrow night and want to know if I should snap them up. Thanks,Mike

These pieces have a wider track than your stock A parts, but otherwise the rear is a good choice (especially if you don't mind the wider track, like if the car is fenderless). The front axle has no drop to it, however, so unless you're running suicide the nose is probably going to be higher than you like. Also, keep in mind that the springs mount differently from your A pieces, the front spring mounts to the wishbone in front of the axle and the rear spring mounts behind the axle tubes. The A-style spring mounts (weld-on) are sold throught Speedway and so are the proper spring-on-top perch pins for the front axle (running spring-in-front is lower, but shortens your wheelbase and looks a little odd).

Depends how cheap you get it, keep the juice brakes and spindles, and sell the rest to somebody repairing a MII.

Gotta agree with 4t6. See what ya gotta pay. Juice brakes...good. As for the axle, I run '35 straight axle suicide-style on my T with a really tall perch and it sits lower than my buddy's bucket with a drop axle!

I know the guy pretty good so it will be next to nothing pricewise. Can I have the front axle dropped? I plan on channeling and not running fenders so the extra with in the rear should be ok.

Im using a 46 font end(well, the axle/bones and spindles) ,with the spring rearranged to attach behind the axle, you can set it pretty low. my frame will be six inches off the deck.

Check on the price of a ring and pinion. And a torque tube, axles, etc... Scoff it all, bolts too, or someday you may regret it. Wish I had known to grab those split clutch pivot bushings, now gotta order some. Almost left behind the X member section, trans mount was even good.

Hey lowsquire ... I also have that front end setup (in a pile of parts http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) and wondered from your pic how it works? It looks like the setup is spring on top with the usual perches. Maybe I cannot figure out the pic ... any comments would be great. Thanks.
