Okay all you Dutch Heads....get on down to your local book store, 7-11 or barber shop and grab a copy of the CAR CRAFT 50th Anniversary special issue! You'll see the blurb "Von Dutch Exclusive" right on the cover!
They reprinted tons of photos, ads and stories from their entire history, including a VINTAGE interview with Von himself! I didn't buy the mag, but I read part of the interview in the store. He spent most of his time making fun of the interviewer's name...but there are some great B&W photos in the article that y'all might dig!
So...brave being seen with a copy of CAR CRAFT sticking out of your pocket and the inevitable questions such as "Where did you park your pink Camaro?" that will come from your hard-core rockerbilly greaser friends...you can tell 'em you're on a Dutch Hunt and silence them as they drool in awe of The Man!!!

This has been a public service denouncement...please enjoy mullet magazines responsibly!

Nobody would even notice, around here, if you bought Car Craft. They would think you're some kinda freak for buying CK Deluxe, Hop Up or RnC or Custom Rodder, though!

If someone turns this post into a fashion related one, I will personally cut off your fingers with kindergarten safety scissors and lemon juice as a lubricant.
Thanks.
I'll be sure to check out the mag, sounds cool...

Car Craft, Hot Rod, Street Rodder, about 2 dozen variations of truck magazines and LowRider are about all you can find around here...no traditional rod and custom oriented mags. I don't remember the last car magazine I bought from the newstand or grocery store.

I want some Von Dutch wooden shoes..........
I will confess!
I was reading a Car Craft just yesterday.
Featured new custom cars were Wilhelm's Mark I Mist, Ray Farhner's Blue Angel 32 roadster pickup, Bailon's Scoopy, and Winfield's Jade Idol.
(Interestingly only the Mist has WWWs...
The other three have US Royal Master's skinny white walls.)
A good size portion of the rest of the mag is about racing Go-Karts...
The date on the CC is October 1960
I quit reading CC when they went from being a Custom Mag to a Drag racing mag. except for every once in a blue moon they run a good article so I buy it. I don't have a problem with "mullet mentality", spent too much time in the 70s wearing one, before it had it's own name, to give a shit. I also know that what someone looks like above their ears can and usually has nothing to do with what is going on between their ears.
I think some mag should change it's name to "Kopy-Kat Kustom Magazine"
or just reprint the old magazine they want to "borrow" an article from in it's entirety with just the addresses changed on the ads that are still in business and the one's long gone noted as being so.
Yea, I know you can buy the first year of Hotrod hard bound... but it's not a magazine anymore that way!

Haven't seen the CC article. It would be cool to see something new though...some new work or something. It seems like every article is the same garbage just rearranged. Oh, here's "Kenneth" playing the flute, here he is painting "Harvey" and here are some previously unpublished photos I've seen eight hundred and forty three times before. His father was on permanent call to leaf the courthouse, Dutch got his nickname from being stubborn as a Dutchman, BLAH BLAH blah, flying eyeball, blah...blah...blaaaa.......
How about some closeups of his exising work? Or how about telling us what his favorite type of brush was so I can put one on ebay and try to pass it off as his? How about a feature on FAKE Von Dutch stuff like that fucking helmet on ebay? Or the space heater that was painted with a Q-tip?

WOW! they did a feature on my favorite clothing line??? can you order clothing directly from the magascene (tm) ????? how long did he live in holland before he moved here? was it hard to mask off all those overlapping lines? did he use 3m pinstripe? i know these sound like dumb questions.....

Not yet. I need to rebuild the rear end. The new motor really tore it up this summer. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
