how do you figure out if you can use it with your sender or not? I know the sending unit and the gauge are supposed to be a matched set, speedway sells sets, but they didn't hav e a sending unit like the one i need. I gotta get a gas gauge in this pile, so what should i do?

Each gauge and sender has different ohms settings. Examples are ...Some show empty @ 0 ohms others show empty @ 100 ohms
You have to find out the sender ohms value and match it to the aftermarket gage ohms value.

ok so now i defintaly know the gauge is bad since we hooked the sender up to the old gauge out of the 50 and it made the needle move, it just moves down very slowly to empty. I attempted to fix the old gauge but it didn't work out, i suck at electrics so i have no idea what the problem is. I read the speedway catalog wrong, and they do have a sender i could use, i just hate having to spend another $60-$70 that i wasn't expecting, and not even be able to have the gauge in it's stock location.

have you looked to how much it might cost just to repair your stock gauge? i know there are several places that do it. you might want to check the back of hemmings or just do an online search for gauge restoration and repair. it might be cheaper or at least around the same money and you get to retain your factory gauge. i had on repaired by a local auto electrics guy when i lived in alabama. now this was 10or12 years ago, but i want to think i paid the guy around 30 bucks. this was in my old '62 impala. the guy fixed it at his house not at the shop so i don't know what kind of luck you might have with that route. have you been to richards or binghams to try to pull one? i was there a coupla weeks ago pulling trim for the plymouth. i may go back in the next coupla weeks if you don't solve the problem before then let me know...ken....

I need to get this resolved pretty soon so i can get the interior wrapped up and the seat and shit back in, so sending it off somewhere wouldn't be a good idea for me. I've got one local yard i found out about yesterday to try, hopefully I"ll get out there tomorrow or friday if the weather is nice. Supposed to be a little stockpile of rusty shit there. I know it'll look better if i can find a stock gauge, but i guess the important thing is that you can tell how much gas you have.
