There's a place near by that crushes cars every month or so. I don't have much time to do numbers running so is there an easy way to tell whats a 302 and whats a 351?
Thanks!

If you mean a 351 Windsor from a 302, the intake manifold is wider due to a taller deck height. Aside from that, they look pretty much the same externally.
I don't have the actual width measurements handy...but after you've been at it a while, you can look at one and know...but it's obvious when you see a 302 and a 351W side by side!
(351C and 351M engines are WAY different from 302s)

Looking at the front of the block were the water pump attaches, if the water inlets are even with the head surface of the block it is a 302. If there is about an inch of space above the water inlet to the top of the block it is a 351.

count the number of intake manifold bolts.
I think 302's have 12 and 351W have 16
someone check me...

the way to tell is that the 351 has more horsepower.......kidding
ive been told that 302s have water inlet neck bolts that are really hard to get at and the 351's are in an open area
this probably didnt help, but im not a ford man...........Briggs

count the number of intake manifold bolts.

Not 100% reliable as in '77, the 351W got the same heads. So it works for early engines, but not the later ones...
Best way is the waterpump inlet/outlet previously mentioned.
However, if they're bone stock, don't underestimate the obvious - read the emission sticker on the valve cover!

also there is a tag under the Coil mounting bracket that had displacement and years on right? its aluminum and about half inch wide, and two inches long.(the tag)
sometimes they are really grungy, check it out

easiest way is look at the lower thermostat bolt.
if you can get a socket on it, it's a 351W

The best way I found was as Hack said. The 351 winsdor has a wider intake manifold. The 302 will measure around 9 1/2" wide. The 351w will measure around 11 1/2".After you look at enough of them its really pretty easy to tell.

doesn't it also say the cubes on the top of the head if you take the valvecovers off? i don't recall entirely but i think my 289 heads said 289 on it. but that aluminum tag is attached via a manifold bolt and it does say engine size. that is if the engine still has it.

later engines had both 302 and 351 written on them heads...
