I've been lurkin' in the shadows for a while and I decided to jump in. I'm from the Northeast corner of Ohio (Mentor). I belong to a bike club that some of you guys may have heard of...Hamsters. I run around with a dude on here named Curly. Old man has been into cars for a while, I strayed off to the bike scene but have always been into cars. Piloted my dads 8 second bigblock alky dragster. It was a '70's Top Fuel car that we ran in IHRA Quickrod. I've got a daughter that I want to take on a cruise every once in awhile but she can't Ride on the bike. I'm in the process of building a '27 Rodster from the ground up. Not a show winner but more of a crowd pleaser. OK Ok enough is enough. Quickrod and I were messing around with his intro when we wrote it.

To set the record as straight as I can...
#1. He is not a gold chainer...he has been into the dragracing end of cars since knee high...He (like me) doesn't have the cash flow to be a gold chainer. His old man is into the Street rod scene and was an owner/driver of an Alky dragster, Gasser Anglia and even a Vega Funnycar. Its in his blood.
#2. He swears no billet on his car and I know that it will not touch the car. We have been doing the swapmeet/j-yard scrounge to build this the "proper way".
#3 He is keeping the Hamster-HAMB thing seperate from each other...he just wanted you guys (and Gals) to know a little about him. He was not promoting Hamsters or any members products. As a matter of fact it was my idea to put it in his intro.
#4 It seems that the "f" word in his intro was slightly more offensive than belonging to the Hamsters. He worked hard to get into the Hamsters...I know I was there the whole time...and if you guys want to bash someone for being a Hamster or knowing Arlen Ness then so be it. I know that Hamsters are an integral part of his life and that is not going to change soon.
#5. We were BOTH laughing our ass off at Germs comments. It seems that some of you took EVERYTHING he said serious meanwhile he was not. This is the problem with reading written word.
#6 Telling people to go fuck off if you don't like the way he is building something or his choice of parts seems to be an underlying feeling with what we do. He defended his choice of parts before you guys got a chance to rag him on a SBC and a glass body! Maybe some of you were offended by not being able to brow beat him before he defended his ride. Some people are ruthless about traditionalism and a glass bodied car owned by a Hamster is like throwing a baby seal to the sharks on this board. Baby seal threw the first punch this time...but still got ate up by the sharks. Maybe even more so for throwin' that first punch.
#6 Many of the people on this board use the same language albeit not in an intro but... People saw the F word in his intro and was offended by it. You told him so, now move on.
#7 Dude they know I got my "Man Boobies" pierced. I told 'em so in my intro...and they ragged me about that too.I wish I knew how to make that little TradeMark symbol...it has much more effect than the quotation marks.

Lastly... Quickrod...welcome to the HAMB...You'll be able to get alot of the questions about building your rod answered here. In Hindsight we probably should have told 'em to "Fuck off" AFTER the harassed you for your Automatic Tranny, SBC and glass body. Butt Reynolds I don't know you either but I like your ride and what you have posted in the past and frankly don't see you as the kinda guy that would player hate someone because he belongs to another organization but from what I just read you did. Apparently Hamster=Goldchainer? You are so wrong on this. The have alot of regular guys behind the scene. They are not all Arlen Ness's and Dave Perowitz's guys. I know of one that is a house painter and he is cool as Hell and been into the scene way before you were born or the Hamsters were formed.

I have respect for Denise and I explained to him who some of you were and Denise I told him is the one that is always smiling and been all over the place. Her bio says she likes Harley and with her pesonality I know she has to be fun so a little joking seemed like fun. Normally if someone swears in their intro, I make no comment to them at all, no welcome, no nothing BUT his was different. He made the commnet "fuck you" which was completely uncalled for. There is a difference between swearing and a direct comment that says "fuck you". I'm no prude, one I ignore, the other pisses me off.

It was explained to me many years ago by my good buddy JohnB, who's the one that turned me on to the HAMB, it's like someone garage, you walk up and introduce yourself before you reach into their fridge and grab a beer. An intro should be friendly and respectful. If not, your going to get hazed.

Here's how I read his intro:

He rode up on his Arlen Ness mega dollar bike wearing a bright, butt-ugly, yellow t-shirt. Turned off the bike and walked up to the crowd in the garage that just happened to be working on a rolling chassis, mind you, there's guys and gals hanging out in the garage. He tells us he's a friend of Curlys(cool we think, he's gotta be a nice guy then), a bunch of us stop what we are doing (intro-police) and start to walk to him with our hand outstretched to shake his hand. He starts telling us about his daughter and how he doesn't feel safe cruzn her around on the bike so he's building a hot rod so he can spend more time with her. Cool we think. Then, as he's mentioning the details about what he's building he says, more or less, and "fuck you if you think it's not traditional enough". http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif What's that all about? Lots of folks here have 'glass bodies and/or SBC. It's nothing that he needs to defend so adamantly right from the start. He never even had to mention it was glass, who woulda known?

The icing on the cake was when he then walked over to his bike broke off the mirror and handed it the dude in the garage who's rolling chassis we were working on and said "here, I'll give you my mirror for that, cuz thats all it's worth". HOLY SMOKES what a slap in the face for all the folks here who save up and bust their ass to build a roller.

Thats my take on his intro. Reading more into it then necessary? probley. If he wasn't a friend of yours, if you weren't vouching for him, I would not have started joking around. I would've made my statement then moved on, probley never opening this thread again. BUT, I did feel like he was probley a good guy, just came off alittle on the overpowering side. If you look at it like this then I can see the slap in the face but since I was here when that was typed and we were BS'n I can tell you he thinks it is cool as hell that you can have this much fun w/o spending the $$$$$$ that he has into his bike. It is alot different then the mega buck rides that some of the Hamsters own. I can tell you that he built his bike from the ground up and both he and I spent a few nights burnin the midnight oil on that puppy. He also knows when you ain't got the cash you better have a talent to barter...He is an excellent detailer. Many nights of busted knuckles polishin' shit people will never see on a bike so that he can go buy that A.Ness mirror. Which bye the way he still has to buy...no Monster Garage freebies here! He is into both cars and bikes for the fun and amazed that you can have twice the wheels (and fun) for half the price...not that we (HAMB members) build cheap cars worth nothing to him. You guys might be wondering why I'm replying instead of him
#1 he is busting his ass in the cold right now hanging siding for the "real" rich people that can afford to build new homes in our current economy so he can feed his wife and kid
#2 He is my bud and I'm not gonna let people shit on him when they are misinterpreting things. Yes he is loud and obnoxious but he is a good guy too. Besides I'm the one that turned the HAMB on to him and feel responsible. He'd help anybody here if ever needed wether they like him or not.

Curly ,I dont even know you, but you sure seem to have do a lot of apologizing for that "great" friend of yours - I hope its not wasted time.I still say he has a ways to go before he's a part of this group......[and what the hell is a hamster] [and who gives a shit].........and also I aint really mad about what he said about me either- Truthfully I didnt take to him to start with and like him even less now.
