The ubiquitous Hirohita HT style but flawlessly done.

This more door 49 was so nice plus it wasnt screaming at you with a statement. Lots of very subtle touches.

Even the flatty was done to perfection in this Merc

286merc
11-04-2003, 04:12 PM
More subtle touches, the parking/signal lights were cut into the lower end sections of the bar.

And finally the rear. This was one of my favorites at the show and shows that a more door can look super.

I think the paint would have been better in a solid . That two tone just doesn't do it for me.

I didn't even notice it was a 4 door til you mentioned it....

Looks like a whole lotta ugly at that show... did you take any pics of any cool cars? I mean Jesus-tap-dancin' -Christ, don't these fucking people know that graphics went out of style ten years ago??

The first pic was pretty cool... but the guy had to fucking COPY a car to get it right... and then, the only other car worth a shit is something the guy has to SELL... maybe to buy a piece of shit like the other cars???

These are obviously people who don't care how they do it in California...

Also, that, that, that thing looks like it WAS a '49 or '50 Plymoth coupe with a '53 Jag grille...

Damn, I'm going to go take a shower now...

Thats the end of the pix. Note I didnt cover the day in day out boring Chevy powered 28-34 Ford stuff that you can find in every mag and at every show.

Nice to see that the NY crowd isnt into a lot of that throw away design stuff that changes every few months as the builders try and outdo each other and compete for mag space.

There will always be a big difference between East and West Coast styles and all that; that hasnt changed in over 50 years. NY, NJ, parts of CT, PA and MA are heavy Italian, they got different tastes and like big cars, colors that dont sear your eyeballs and all that stuff like pastels and graphics. Out West its the fags that like that stuff, just another difference between us.

I just think it is a shame that one asshole has to take it to a personal level particularly since his head is usually up someone elses ass sucking for freebies.
IOW, Sammy the Runt, fuck off and stay out of my face. You capice you little turd?

Vic, I was looking for you but didnt know what bucket was yours. I was pretty busy vending and only got free for a short time on Sunday afternoon to shoot pix.
So what about the Nassau Coliseum show coming up; how is that? I might be making more trips to LI to catch up with old friends before we start doing funerals!

Yeah right on with that "mystery", a 50 Dodge Wayfarer! I saw a lot of stuff leaving on Saturday that didnt show on Sunday; several trad coupes and customs. But I never saw so many friggin SBC's in such a variety of bodies. Is that all you guys can find down there? There was one A coupe with a hemi but that looked bloated as the big ones always do.
No nailheads, rockets, Y blocks and I think I only saw one SBF and one 460. Only one custom F100 and maybe 2 early 50's Chevy pickups. There are even big differences between there and up here in northern new England and it is only a 230 mile trip.

Man, that area has really changed, not someplace to be after dark. The show promoter told us we best be out of there by 6PM on Sunday, in the past vendors had their loads hijacked! We were both carrying but still wasnt comfortable.

long island vic
11-04-2003, 07:34 PM
there was no reason for pickups . they were out east in farm country. nassau was suburbia. all the old motoers were crushed yrs ago cause there is no room .there are to many fuckin ginzos and low lifes aronnd there. thats wt you get when you try to bring together workers and slime. its the deal where if you have ane i need one wt bigger wheels. very few wt any balls to reach out into the unknown. as far as after dark is not all that bad, just the imagrents that are fucked up. oh i forgot elmont is all imagrants

Sam, Don't be so shallow. Have you ever been out here? I've been to shows in Cal. & Nev. and its the same variaty of cars there & here.

At least we don't have Galaxies with visors running around, here!

I kinda have to agree with Sam on this, even though he seems to have other issues with 286merc. When I moved to the midwest I found out where all the 70's & 80's shit went. It's all right here. Luckily some of the guys get it right, but most don't have a clue. I didn't know you could still buy white letter tires. And yes I'm from CALIFORNIA!!! What's wrong with small block Chevys? They fit, they run good, they look cool. Oh, and that red T bucket SUCKS !!!!!!!!!! Those two guys look to be laughing at it. I'm amazed. Yea, you're right... I do have an issue with 286 merc and his racial remarks... only this time instead of insulting the Jewish members on our board... he insulted my grandfather who came here from Italy in 1913 and worked his ass off to be a citizen and lead a very productive life...

and for the rest of you guys who think I just started a East West argument with my comments... take up some reading comprehension courses... in other words, I meant that the guys with all the "ugly" all over their cars were obviously the same people who don't care how they do it in California... ok, maybe I was wrong... maybe they did care how they did it in California... in 1989...

Really though, it always seems like it's ok to bash CA... but if anyone pokes fun at something that is truly fucking ugly... that just happens to be from the East coast... you guys get all up in arms! I mean really, Californians don't sit around bad mouthing you guys... and I for one really think the differences in East and West have been all but extinguished my the benefits of the information age... but that's probably too deep a subject to get into right now...

My chip is gone too... see? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Also, about 286 mercs "freebee" comment... I went through this before... but if any of you jerk-offs can show me one post where I held a hand out wanting something for free... I'll suck it up and wear the "dickhead" moniker for a year...

In addition, if anyone can show me something that 286 merc actually BUILT... HIMSELF... with pictures PROVING IT... I'll do something equally apologetic...

Sam.

Sam... you bashed the guy with the Merc for COPYING the Hirahota (spell?) Merc. Wasn't the Hirahota Merc based on an earlier Barris custom? My cars are influenced by other cars. I think you even said your's were influenced by other cars. We all copy to some extent.

You did get me thinking. It was an East coast thing to channel the hell out of their cars. The new trend in Rat Rodding is channeling the hell out of your car. Now all those California Rat Rodders wouldn't be COPYING the EAST coast style. Nah! They wouldn't do that.

I like Hot Rods in general. I don't care where they're from. Hell I even think the English and Ausies are building some cool shit.

Next time you don't like what somebody has to say. Confront them! Don't bash everything in their post.

Clark

PS Now as for that Plymouth or Dodge blast away!!!!

SamIyam
11-05-2003, 11:21 AM
Yea, I'd agree that the current RAT RODS copy the east coast style... but really, this entire East/ West thing is silly... just a subtle comment sets people off... anyway, I think it has gotten better... why just the other day I was going through some old mags and read comments in an editorial of an early 60's mag that bashed the East coast... they weren't doing anything to help the matters back then... and today, I think it's some of those hard feelings that are just getting perpetuated...
Sam.

Yea, you're right... I do have an issue with 286 merc and his racial remarks...

My, My, little Sammy is still so full of shit it's unbelivable. Listsn jerk, once and for all as I told you this a year ago. Find that post that I supposedly insulted a Jew and reference it here. If you cant then put your head back up your ass.

only this time instead of insulting the Jewish members on our board... he insulted my grandfather who came here from Italy in 1913 and worked his ass off to be a citizen and lead a very productive life..

Oh, God. Sammy the 30 something wannabee who only knows about things from reading old rod books. I wouldnt expect him to know about the original Untouchables when it was first on TV. It was the Italians who coined that expression you stupid fool. And with surnames such as Fortunato and DelPozzo in my family tree I think Im entitled to use the term.

and for the rest of you guys who think I just started a East West argument with my comments... take up some reading comprehension courses... in other words, I meant that the guys with all the "ugly" all over their cars were obviously the same people who don't care how they do it in California... ok, maybe I was wrong... maybe they did care how they did it in California... in 1989..

No reading comprehension needed, you have a long history of bashing anything or anybody that doesnt fit your narrow vision.
And even tho it will bash your fragile overblown ego there are many of us who dont care how or when they did it in CA. Some ideas we like we stay with it, fads are for magazines and some gold chainers. Pin striping is still around so WTF is wrong with graphics except you dont like it. And we all know that doesnt matter to anyone.
BTW, graphics were around in the East as far back as the early 60's.

It was you who started bashing the pix I posted, must be a short term memory problem out there. Ugly? Is that from someone who hasnt built much of anything? Who gave you the post of "custom critic"? I suggest you stay with your little toy car and related sublects.

My chip is gone too... see?

Also, about 286 mercs "freebee" comment... I went through this before... but if any of you jerk-offs can show me one post where I held a hand out wanting something for free... I'll suck it up and wear the "dickhead" moniker for a year...

More memory failure. Im sure somone has the time and patience to search the archives and pull up several.

In addition, if anyone can show me something that 286 merc actually BUILT... HIMSELF... with pictures PROVING IT... I'll do something equally apologetic...

Like what? A toy from scratch? Ive never done it and always admit it. I start with something tangible such as someone elses project, barn find, etc and go from there. I'll take 2-3 of those a year to some higher level and then sell, many have nothing to do with trad rods. You want some 1950's F600 and F800 dump truck pix?

Stuff from the past? Sorry, Ive moved too many times and once a vehicle sold Im not into keeping faded old photos around. That is starting to bother me tho as I get older, I hardly have any family pix either. A digital camera is even worse; Ive had 2 PC crashes since I bought the camera 4 years ago and lost most of them, includig both older sons weddings.

What I do today? I spend 30-40 hrs a week mostly working on other peoples stuff and the rest with the paint and welding supply sideline. Do I need to take pix of every engine I build? Sorry but my ego doesnt require a regular dose of photo ops; one engine looks the same as the next...boring, even if it is a flathead. You want to see those engines then come East to the shows, they are around regularly with credits on the display boards when used. Or get your buddy the "freelance photographer" to do it for you.

Do I have to have someone stand around and take pix every time I break out the Henrob and do some hammer welding? Just to satisfy one dickhead? Or show me sandblasting a frame and spraying on Zero Rust? I think not.

Current drivers? I have 4 registered and running. Pix have been posted here and elsewhere. Funny how it is ONLY YOU who whines whenever I post the truck even tho a lot of work has been done to it.
You have to be one of the most pathetic excuses for a rodder I've run across in a long time. Grade A crybaby.

Sorry Sammy, but I happen to be very content the way I live and work. Low key and no zoning hassles from having a bunch of drunks hanging around every evening. That should get you a flood of EMail from a local scumbag lurker who is as full of shit and lies as you are.
Im also comfortable with the styles of vehicles Ive been around for almost 50 years. Maybe when you grow up you might have a change in attitude.

Now go away and quit annoying me little man, Ive got real work to do. You just provide the after lunch entertainment.

The rest of you guys, I have to apologize for Sammy's childish outbursts. I posted the pix for all to see and especially the small North East Coast minority who hang on HAMB. I would think that those Mercs and some others were also at Lead East and other East shows. It seems the most vocal often dont even have a driver so we know what their opinions are worth.
And even a rank beginner should know that a photo that has been reduced in resolution to fit the HAMB size requirements rarely depicts the actual subject accurately.

And you wonder why HAMB is shunned by so many East Coasters and salt of the earth Midwesterners? All you have to do is go to other forums and ask the question.
