Just posting a update on the big rusty chevy. I am starting to work my way around the car ,just so much welding!! .I am starting to think about the front.Any ideas with the grill.A grill swap is out because there are none over here,so it will be hand made tube whatever.Going to use the bumper, just paint it silver.Anyone some photos I need Ideas Help.

I scraped the idea of a hardtop, I just did not have the parts to make it work. There has been a lot of work getting the gaps good still lots to do.I have the door closing good now.I think I am starting to get somewhere.

There was a Barris '49 or '50 Chevy with an extremely beautiful fabricated grille in one of the first issues -- maybe THE first issue -- of Hop Up (Aug '51) and of course it would appear in Mark Morton's reprint of the first year of Hop Up. The grille was just two horizontal bars made of large diameter tubing (maybe 2" or 2.5"), bent slightly to match the curve of the front end. Each tube had a cylindrical light at each end -- 4 lights in all -- which were just flush extensions of the tubes themselves. The two bars were floated in an opening changed only slightly from stock (a flare around everything, as I recall). Maybe somebody can post a picture of this car?

That Chev is really coming along!
My next ride I'm thinking I'll try more metalwork, or rather patchwork and doorskins, less filler work, although it was worth it to learn filler work this time around.
But the arms are asking to me learn to weld. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Nice work, so far! What are yer additional plans?
BTW- what's the rodding scene in Belfast like?

Hahahaha, I couldn't resist that little dig there.

Actually three of my Great Grandpa's came from Ireland. O'Riardan, Wilson, and McGrath. The McGrath from Waterford, Wilson from Londenderry, and O'Riardan was an orphanage runaway and we don't know where he came from originally. He dropped the O' and just went by Riardan because when he came over, the Irish were treated worse than the Blacks. I guess he thought that would hide his nationality...

Your Car looks like its coming along. Did Chevy sell cars over there? Or did somebody import it on their own?

Heres one that was in Rod&Custom. Add Primer and Steelies and you'll have a slick HAMB car....

Humboldt Cat The photo makes it look good!! I have loads of filler to do ,as long as there is good metal under it ,should be ok.Not much happening over, with rods and kustoms its small but getting bigger. check out www.irish-customs.com (http://www.irish-customs.com)

Some exhaust tubing, straights and bends welded to hood and fenders for a grill surround. Chrome exhaust tubing for a floating grill.

I like the front end that was in the rod and custom mag the best! Let me know what you need. http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/html/emoticons/eclipsee_gold_cup.gif

Allways enjoy looking at your pics - not enough customs in UK.
How about if you do a tube grille with vertical bars like a Buick or Bi-concave (?) like a Mk 3 Zephyr - More work, but looks like your not afraid of a bit of hard graft !

If you need a buick grill Adam Sayers (Tris R Us) heard of a '55 roadmaster that got used in a demolition derby http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
He mentioned it had alot of the chrome work, might be worth a call....

AFAIK Chevy never sold cars here ( well in England anyway.. ) everything is imported. There are more and more cars coming out of South Africa to here nowadays, they are mostly right hand drive..

Another one, might cost a bit more. These kitchen drawer knobs can add up.

Mikes51 - That exhaust tubing around the fender and hood looks killer - I was thinking of doing something similar to surround the grille on my 50 chevy... I'm just waiting to find or fabricate the right grille first!

Drove her out today no brakes exhaust or seats , used a wheel to sit on .It was great fun. A nighbour came out . I have been working on her for a year ,he said are you doing it up for shows. I told him it was to drive everyday. You should have seen his face... http://www.photobucket.com/albums/1003/50chevy/7fd5ceda.jpg

You're a brave man. The car looks great, especially parked outside so's you can see all the lines.
It's got great lines and great lines make a great Kustom.

Great profile 'Minor- I have to say this- we Americans have it made on better availability of tin- BUT these guys from Europe [and other] countrys have the market cornered on ingenuity and skills to make a marginal car into a great looking custom/Rod.we pale by comparison!

Ditto what brother Nads said; profile is spot on.

Also I agree with Steve B on that red Mercedes-headlighted thing on one of the pics. Not a good rolemodel at all in my book.

This however is. Good idea for a grille as well.

I think I saw someone do something similar to the last one using a polished 5L booze keg in the middle of the grill......I think some of the euro beers come in the little kegs.

Damn, major project, and no minor talent, either! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Did you import the front doors from an American two-door sedan? I really like the B pillor slant, and the roof re-shaping is nice. The ingenuity of some of you guys who are working a little off of rodding's beaten path is really impressive. Press on!

50fruad's idea would be kool, just at the end of the tube put in bullet taillights from a caddy. I think they make clear lens for them somewhere. Just pur in amber bulbs for your parking/clearence lights. My greatgrandfather on my mothers side came over from Ireland, last name was McGarvey. I tried researching the name but only found a MacGarvey. Don't know if it was shortened when they came to the states or not. later plmczy
