Why doesn't anybody, and I mean anybody, ever, ever use a riding lawn mower with the mowing deck removed as a pit vehicle?
I see multitudes of quad fours, expensive Japanese "mules. three wheelers and every other imaginable contrivance in use. But never a lawn mower tractor.
They race riding lawn mowers...tractor pulls have a class for them.
There are thousands of them at used lawn mower sales lots.
But they are never used at Drags races.
Why not?

They are/were used at The Indy 500 for years.

I would venture it is a problem of either self respect, or good taste.

One of the guys in our local group is working on getting a riding lawnmower to go to Bonneville.
There is a fairly large group in hte mid west that does tractor pulls with lawnmowers.
Some pics here:

Yes I've seen actual riding mower tractor pulls in Springfield, MO and Rogers, AR
They have plenty of power to pull a altered or dragster around the pits.
And as for self-respect...I can only quote Ole 440 himself "WTF are you talking about?

Self respect?? What next, are we going to go politically correct and worry about the HA/GR builders having low self esteem?
Seems like a riding mower with the mower part removed would make a great "pit tug tractor".
It don't take that much horsepower to drag a car through the pits from the end of the shutoff area and back to the staging lanes.:p

I was looking at this and thought the top speed of my rider was to slow. We pull my rail back from end of strip, wich is a lg. haul. I still needed it for my lawn so modifying it was out. How is your rail coming, Butch? Thought you would of come up for Hamb drags?

actually its a good idea.i have 5 of them and never thought about it.
A riding lawnmower would be fine as long as:
It has a flathead or in-line engine 1962 or older.
Full width front and rear ends.
Stick shift.
etc., etc., etc. :D:D:D

Was thinking the other way round, put a mower deck under my HA/.GR. fastest mower in my area?

Look at it this way:
Riding lawn mowers are the agricultural equivalent of HA/GRs.
They are:
Front engine
Have large rear tires
Have smaller front tires
Have wide front and rear tread
Driver is located between the front and rear axle.
And as far as being slow almost every pit and return road in the world has a 5 or maybe a 10 mph speed limit.
So wadaya' gonnna' do with a fast lawnmower tractor anyway?
Huh?
