So, what are the rules?

I went last weekend & it was very difficult to isolate anything specific as far as what you can & can't run.

Are there actually different classes? When I went last weekend it seemed like there were altereds racing muscle cars, front engine dragsters racing flathead t-buckets, and whatever.

Please, enlighten the ignorant!

They call it Bracket Racing these days...
http://www.nhra.com/basics/ (http://Bracket Racing)

Some people will "poo-poo" it... me included... but it evolved out of big dollar people messing up class drag racing... basically, if we made a class for Jr. Fuel dragsters, guys would show up the first year with basic combinations that maybe the average guy with a good job could afford to build... then, by year three or four, the bar will have been raised to the point where it takes a fat wallet to be competitive... FWIW, the Goodguys organization still has class drag racing with their "Pro" classes... AA/Fuel or Top fuel, AA/Gas, A/Fuel and Jr. Fuel... but, it takes $30,000+ motors to kick ass in these classes...

Anyway, if you want olden-day class racing... go to Bonneville... you have a certain size motor, running a certain type of fuel, in a certain car... you can compete... and there are enough classes to go around with enough cars to fill most of the classses... something the NHRA would have a hard time doing today...

Sam.

When M.A.R. in Wentzville MO hadtheir first Nostalgia Drags in the mid 80's, they ran anything against anything. They spotted so many Car lengths, and had a Flagman instead of a tree.

Over the Years, they have gotten more sophisticated. I think they have it broken up into classes now, and they use a tree. The only thing Nostalgic about it now is the Cars.

I understand bracket racing. I guess I had incorrectly assumed that there were some kind of year restrictions or something. But there was a guy running an 83 Firebird, so I guess that's not really the case. They ran heads up for a while, and then ran bracket later in the afternoon (and I pretty much bailed when they started the bracket shit, as I'm not really into it).

There were some really cool cars either way.
