I know it's just barely Friday, but I'm awake and bored. Anyhoooooo.....
Here's some stuff I've been working on. The first one, I like, but the lighting on the car doesn't match the background. The second one matches, but it's not as dynamic. Oh well. I'll get it figured out. The car is the main focus anyway. The third one is in progress. Should have it finished some time in the next 12 hours or so. Let's get this ball rollin'!!

Twisted tradition.
Start with a very traditional rod body.
In this case a 32 Ford roadster. Slice, dice and mince it.
Add a transverse, mid-engine V8, a bubble top and
a crazy paint job.
Somewhere between Roth and a formula car;
I give you the Transverse Rod!

Suit from over at HAMBKU writes bitchin' poems. I asked to chuck one on this week's show with an appropriate visual support. Here goes-
It's a universal chowder
of metal and skin
it all gets absorbed
And spit out again
Poor old Chevy
Left in a marsh
Your road was weathered
Your road was harsh
Poor Mister Porter
left in a home
they all moved away
and now he's alone
The two of you will pass
and be covered in dirt
then you'll break down
Mister Porter will finish first
Then someone will plant a garden
Or drinking water will flow
You've been long gone
so they'll never know
that they're eating a dashboard
or drinking a foot
Mister Porter is delicious
He's much better cooked..
Hubcaps become tomatoes
tomatoes become cars
Cars become pickles
and are kept in some jars
Suit

Been so bust with work I hardly get to draw my own stuff, let alone post any. So, throwing caution to the wind, I decided to do a quicky...
I took this:
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m45/jigger_01/Oldies/64CHEVYP-UP-1.jpg
And give it some color. This may end up being a concept sketch for a truck I hope
to 'pick up' (sorry) in the near future. Hopefully the real one wont be all bent and distorted tho...

I say it e v e r y Friday, but crap, where'd the week go?!
Surely some of ya'll have (helped) carve a block o' pine into a Derby Car for your young Boy Scouts. My wife Robin and I did that for 4 years with our twin boys Barron and Braeden. That's 8 cars. So on the 3rd year, I sketched 2 cars for the "Adults" drag race. Here's mine. I started with a mail-order plastic mobil home kit from NuCompMiniatures (http://www.nucompinc.com/), did a bit o' finaglin and managed to wedge a chunk of the pine-wood derby kit's block of wood inside. We used the axles and wheels too. The 'car' has to weigh a certain amount and fit the track, that's why we drilled so many holes in the bottom. I printed all the curtains from my Mac/Epson, Rebel flag being V E R Y important down here in Jarja... This thing wobbled so bad on its maiden run I thought fore shore it wuz gonna flip and take out the competition hardeeharhar!
Kit came with the under-pinnin just like my first home in Ft. Rucker:
http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/ss354/Runawaychair/JarjaDerbyCar-SideA.jpg
The roofin is just a piece of sandin paper:
http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/ss354/Runawaychair/JarjaDerbyCar-RR.jpg
The mobil home kit came with a bump-out or "lean-to" as us fokes call 'em:
http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/ss354/Runawaychair/JarjaDerbyCar-SideAclose.jpg
I had planned on puttin a threaded insert in the center hole so to screw ona trophy base:
http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/ss354/Runawaychair/JarjaDerbyCar-Bottom.jpg
Next Week: My wife's derby car pun on Michael Schumacher! Stay tuned! Same Bat-Station...

Hey Keith, Mark here, Love the mobile home. Here's the lotus 7 I built a few years back for the adult races. Unfortunately, none of the other dad's and moms understood they were to get involved so mine was the only one. (Duds.) Mine lost to all the scouts that year in an unofficial race off after competition ended. The following year, however, with no prep work, it beat all the kid's cars. That'll teach 'em. Funny how things vary from year to year.
The front fenders are pop-sickle sticks I soaked in water and bent on a buck
made with nails in a piece of pine. The rears are bobbed Revell, '30 Ford Coupe donors.

Here is a picture of an 8'-2" marlin that I scored at the spring swap meet in Midland. I bought this from the original owner who caught it in Acupolco in 1971. It came with a picture of the the man and his wife, posing with the catch, and a certificate of authenticity from the taxidermist.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v676/jdubbya/DSC00564.jpg
And here is what happened to it after some body work, some metallic blue chromabase, some HOK limetime pearl, and a little bit of orange 1-shot
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v676/jdubbya/DSC00603.jpg
The pictures do not really do it justice, it is way cooler in person.
The paintwork was done by my friend Gary, "hotrodgary" here on the HAMB. After a total investment of $150.00 or so, I couldnt be happier.
Cant wait to show a pic to the original owner, if I should happen to run into him at future swap meets...

Hey, thanks man, I appreciate that. It was a blast to build. I wish I'd filled in some of the scratch and dents but time was of the essence.
Hey, surf monkey, I like that rendering of the VW. I even think I'm partial to the
earlier version. It has a lot of mood and personality and doesn't appear over worked.
This is not to say the finished piece does look overworked, just that there's a nice
quality to the earlier one. Good stuff, I say keep at it.

cheers jig...the background probably doesn`t help...i was just playing around with the presets in corelpainter....i just get frustrated seeing jeffs (and now jesses) really tight renderings....i`m on one of my `wanna learn periods ` at the moment... stuff i need to do...gotta another big op coming up in september so i wanna get it all out of my system before having to lay flat...love that lotus by the way...you need to sell that lotus to a guy down the road from me whos building a caterham (lotus lookalike) might be the only way he`ll see it finished lol
typ24 thanks for the comments...you certainly are the king of the poster colours....i`ve used them to do hand painted posters for various functions...hard to get a good blend but very vibrant when you get it right....like what your doing...you just need to do some hot rods now lol

SUPER- BAD SHOW
Surf Monkey- You is a lucky sod to be near Shuttlwerf ! Sounds like fun but I'd get a crook neck livin' there. I'm near Parafield- 'bit lower key but have a warbird museum/ hangar there ( Bob Jarret- g'day mate- rodder legend ). U get the occasional thrill- like a Boomerang last few days ( seeing it booming along I found it hard to imagine it as the cannon fodder that it was for the Japanese Zero's. )
Ewt2- Thank you. I too like that old pile of rusty shapes too- my old mate Squasha from Classic Acres turned me onto it on the way home from me 1000 mile buck's show walkabout. Good mystic country up there where this tin is- around Port Augusta. I include this here tourist photo-.

Zombie I like your frankness- your passion for hot rods shows. And I admire your courage to say what you feel and I rue the fact that it's a quality wanting in me. BTW, I agree somewhat with your comment. Some cars appear designed for cheap attention/ laughs with no respect to what may be a greater potential. My mate Tony had an 8" channeled deuce that was a bichin' car. Dave Mc Donald's old car. Sadly often today the results have as much eye appeal as a cow with a cup of tea. Guess that makes us/ you/ me cranky !
p.s. O.T; ^^ Wow Surf Monkey !- I wanna live in your town- Lysanders, Hunters ( so beautiful ).. O.T; I forgot to say- Classic Jets museum Parafield- excellent. BTW were you ever lucky enough to be freaked out by the Rolls- Royce sounds of Concorde ?

Since this is about to go into the archives, I'll try to be brief. And I don't want to speak for Mr Zombie but I think this will come close to what he and I are seeing....
It's not the fact that the car isn't finished that makes it a POS. It's the fact that it lacks a convincing direction. It looks like a hot rod swallowed a Musclecar. I have seen cars that are not finished but they just use the right unfinished parts to make the right look - for the right period of the car being built. When I see this kind of car (and yes the HAMB is riddled with them - but it is also riddled with good ones that more than make up for it) I see someone who just wants to build a crazy looking car and thinks that the unfinished look is going to make it really look cool.
