Well, I finally found the body for my Model A coupe A-V8 flathead project. The weekend of the KKOA Sherman/Dennison show, I was at an old car rally with a bunch of my Model A buddies. I was talking about how I would like to find another coupe body for a flathead A-V8 project. One of the guys there said he had one that had been sitting out for about 8 years that he wouldn't be doing anything with. He said that a chop was started on the top, but they had not yet cut the cowl or doors. I said I was very interested.

Well, yesterday I went out and picked up the pile. The driver's door was no where to be found, but the rest of it was there. Also, the panel over the driver's door was ripped, but nothing that can't be fixed. Here are some shots of it. I hope to lay it out for some better shots soon. I just had to get it loaded into the garage last night because it was getting late.

It also came with three front springs, one rear spring, a set of split wish bones (one bone has bung on end, and one is not finished yet), a V8 front axle with wish bone on it, cowl band, and gas tank.

Nice find. I've been looking for the back half of a 30-31 coupe for a while - I have a good cowl, tank, etc. A set of nice doors, and all of the back sheet metal above the beltline. Basically missing the rear quarters and related parts.

What happened to the sedan plan?

You're lucky.

MarkX is the proud owner of that sedan. He is planning to build it up with some radical ideas. It sounds like it's going to be pretty sweet. As for this coupe, I'm going to tidy up the rough edges and go with the chop that it's got. I hope my 6'4" ass fits in it! I haven't tried the fit yet, but I'm expecting I'll have to get a hair cut!

If you decide to run the V8 axle and wishbone, I could use the split Model A front wishbone.

Cool chop. Nice score.

You should finish the chop, and just swap that body with the one on your current A. Throw those green wheels on, insta-rod!

Levis - Let's just say that I need to find this guy a nice Christmas present!

KnR - I've got another A frame, rear end, flathead, transmission on the way, wheels and tires. I'm pretty much lacking spindles, brakes and a seat. I want to try to build something up out of the pile of parts. I want to keep my current Model A body on that frame, but do some minor hop up on it as well.

Lucky? Who, the guy that got it hauled away for free?

Hey John! I know it's rough, but the price was right! And the guy gave me a double your money back guarantee! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Damn Merc50! You're right. Gotta change that right now.

Good gawd! And I was whining to Lefturn yesterday about the quarter panel of my Merc looking like swiss cheese! You will be my new god of bodywork if you put that thing back together! Amen brother! Nice find! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

From the looks of those pictures, it's gonna be on the stand a might bit longer.

Well, I measured the chop tonight and it's 6 inches! The back window opeing is 4 inches tall, and the center of the windshield will be 4 inches tall! Pretty radical!

Got an itch to lay some of this stuff out in the driveway to get some ideas. I've got the frame, motor, and rear end elsewhere. Here's what I've got to work from...

Well, another update to the post....

Got the two doors, full subrails and door jambs for the coupe now. It's time to start glueing the pieces together!!!

MarkX... I'm going to need to get that Model A frame from your shop soon. I want to do some door and windshield chopping in the coming week or two and then start assembling the body on it.

Are you going to be able to fit in that thing when its done?

Elrod

You bet I will. There is no way I'm going to miss out on driving it! I'm not going to fill the top, just incase!

Does that qualify as a Titus Deathrod in the last photo? No floorboards, channeled heavily, no emergency brake AND you're gonna glue it together!!!hmmmm.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
