Have a buddy that just did the coversion but he is having problems with the disc staying engaged.
I can't remember if you have to grind the backside of the disc. Anyone tell me what might be causing this to hang up? The throwout bearing is free.
Thanks

Yep, had to grind out the splines on the side of the disc that would be facing the trans. allowing the disc to slide further down the shaft.. Almost a quarter of an inch or so. If this was not done, the disc could be bottomed out on the input shaft, in turn forcing it into the flywheel. I'm about half asleep, just getting off work...hope that makes sense. Which bellhousing did he use? I know with the '55 - '57 bellhousing you need the extra clearance, or it will bind...

Thanks....I don't know what bellhousing he has but I am assuming 55-58 somewhere in there.
I don't have my trusty Brian Logan installation kit since I am at work. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is it a truck bellhousing or car?
I did this with a truck bellhousing in my '54 truck and didn't need to grind the splines, just mod the input shaft and bearing collar.
