I see that an intro is appropriate for a newbie to this group. I was last really active in hot rodding when flatheads were still plentiful. Happily I see a resurgence of interest in them. I did manage to build a '51 Ford panel about 23 years ago with Chev 283, Edelbrock, Carter AFB, and a turbo 400. It is in Texas now with my brother-in-law who lets me drive it when I visit. This year I finally got back to it and am gathering parts for a 28 Ford roadster pickup. The steel body, bed, hood top and grille are to arrive in about 3 weeks. A slightly warmed 350 is to be done in two weeks. I am elbow deep in Ford 8" grease and seeking a 3:55 to replace the 2:79 third member. I am astounded by today's prices of hot rod parts. Ouch. But, being an old fart, I am always in sticker shock.
I had the great good fortune to join an old hot rod buddy and go to Bonneville this year. What a great time. Evening "car shows" at the hotel parking lots were as neat as the actual races on the salt. I highly recommend the event.
Enough of this. I live in Sonora, California near Yosemite National Park. I am a retired law enforcement administrator, 33 years at it, and never wrote a dragging ticket in my life. Couldn't bring myself to do that. Pipes or speed instead were good enough for me absent an alligator mouth on the driver. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi Jim, welcome aboard. I was another HAMB member that went to B'ville this year for Speed Week. I was also hanging out in the hotel parking lots in the evenings. Perhaps our paths crossed. One of the BEST times I've ever had.

Topless,
I sure did see you there at the hotel. I wondered how the hell you drove from New England to Wendover in that open Olds without freezing your you-know-whats off!
Neat car and yes it was a great time at Bonneville. I was the old fart setting a land speed record on a doodle bug. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Thanks to you and the others for the welcome to HAMB.

Welcome! You'll fit right in. Fill us in more on the progress of that rpu, when you get the chance! I used to live in Turlock, at the University (Turkey Tech), Sonora seemed like good hot rod material. I'm trying to remember- are you near Columbia? Arnold?
