i have a beat-up borg warner 4-speed in the rod and i want to replace it with a T-5 5-speed. i got it from the junk yard and it came out of a 1986 iroc-z camaro. i had been told by someone that the T-5's in the S-10 pickups had a straight across rubber mount under the rear of the tranny and the T-5's used in the camaro V-8's had an angled mount under the rear end of the tranny. this T-5 i just got at the bone yard has a straight across rubber mount. does anyone know if they made any T-5's with the straight across rubber mounts that were used in the V-8 applications? the operator at the bone yard showed me the iroc-z camaro he removed the tranny from and it does look like it was just butchered up to remove the transmission, so i don't think he is trying to stroke me. thanks for the help, i appreciate it. mike

I don't know about the mounts, but the Camaro/Firebird shifter is further back than the S10.And the ratios are different. You can start here: T5 page (http://www.inliners.org/Jack/t5_page.html)

thanks Ian, i have looked at that page before trying to find some answers. yes i realize the shifter location will change, in fact it will move to the rear about 4" from where my 4-speed hurst shifter comes through the floor, which means i have to butcher the seat too but i'm going for it, i need that 5th gear overdrive for the highway driving. thanks again for the help, mike

The Camaro T5 is tilted in the car, so if you installed it with the stock tailhousing and a bellhousing that made it level, the shifter would point towards the passenger door. I think that the mounting location on the tailhousing looks level, but when installed, it required a wedge shaped mount like the Mustang T5.

Before instalation, make sure the bearing retainer indexing hole in the bellhousing is large enough to accomodate the T5 retainer. Every one that I've worked with has been larger than the bellhousing I wanted to use, and often required cutting a little off the input shaft too.

not to hijack the post... but how durable are the T-5's?
Like how well (or poorly) do they take abuse behind a very torquey motor?

Read the T5 page. From what I understand, the S10 T5's don't hold up very well with racers, but the Camaro ones are OK.

thanks for all the comments and suggestions, i appreciate it. i picked up the 5 speed today and really looked it over when i got home and it does have an angled mount. when i initially looked at it at the bone yard, the guy had it in a small, almost dark room so it was very hard to tell that it was angled. modernbeat....thanks for the pointers, they will be addressed as soon as the shitbox motor comes out and i start dissassembling everything. thanks again guys, mike
