I attempted a trip to the 05 drags, but didn't make it, this year my buddy is taking his 34 highboy and I would like to bring my truck. I don't know if there is a class i can run in, or if there is one, please forgive the draglites.
It's a 47 ford pickup with a musta II subframe and a 4 link rear, I put lap belts in it nad I have never ran it at the track. It runs a B&M supercharged 351w & c6 tranny. So, if I bring it what can I do with it?
I'd say Gas coupe/sedan. Lots of trucks run in this class every year.

Yup, that's where I've been since the beginning.
Guess I should get my registration in.

Last year they really only had time trials. If there was any class competition it was a JOKE. dont let that keep you from going and having a good time. I'll be there if I can get my car out of the paint shop.

Yeah....whats up with that? Your right it was a joke! Why have classes if you don't do nothing but time trials.... Last year the car I ran did a red light....but they didn't give me a chance to run the next guy...I think we need to get something going as far as eliminations!

So there are classes but no eliminations, or eliminations but no "winners"? Regardless i am planning to meet up with a buddy of mine w/ his 34 highboy and drive down on friday for the swapmeet & then cruise over to Joplin. Thanks for the info.

You may be missing the point. This is supposed to be fun!
There are eliminations, there is a winner per class.

The HAMB Drags is more about lineing up with your buddy and giving him a whuppin than structured classes, rules and eliminations. Too much organization can fuck up a good time.

There are eliminations.
The last run that they call for your class is the elimination run. The FASTEST car in that class that does not red light, cross the center line or lose some other way, is the class eliminator. Simple, but effective.

No, I'm not missing the point and yes I'm there to have fun :D
I just think they need to "fine tune things" a little.....

Your opinion, noted.
My opinion, keep things the way they are.
Seems to be a fairly successful format because it gets bigger every year, why screw with tradition.

I'll agree. With 200 cars we couldn't do open time runs and standard eliminations. It would have to be setup like a bracket race and that wouldn't be any fun...

Is there a class for Flatheads or something similar? I've got a 32 Tudor with flathead power.
Thanks

Agreed on everything you just said ,especially the bracket racing part.I hate bracket racing and have never understood the fun in it.Who cares how consistant a drag car is ? My thing is to go as fast as i can everytime .I got a major lecture on the phone from the guy i bought the Dart from a while back for modifying it (making it faster) because bracket racing was what he originally built and used it for.I sure hope the Hamb drags ,DOTD ,and others ,dont go with the bracket racing trend later. They are perfect as is IMO...

There are trophys, since the beginning I believe. I donated a damaged piston for one of them.
Have you actually attended one of these events?

Yep, been there the last 3 or 4 yrs. I don't guess you remember the purple 'n white Henry J......Don't recall seeing any trophy's but I'm not saying there wasn't any.
If you see me this year come by and say hi.......always ready to meet new friends.

Henry, sorry I don't recall you being there. I am sure there are quite a few guys that have attended that I don't remember.
Don't get me wrong, if there is a need for improvement then I am sure Ryan and crew would be willing to take on suggestions. But until then, things are just hunky-dory.
Just as I am sure you would not drag your rig all the way to Suprise Arizona to run at a non-sanctioned event, myself and folks like me are not going to travel some 2500 miles round trip to watch some structured drag race in the middle of nowhere. We are not drag racers, we are hot rodders. This is just about the only chance we get to flog our gear all day and have a hoot hanging out with friends we have made over the last 8+ years on a stupid hokey message board. I see no need to change anything about the way things are run. I have attended every single one of these and plan on doing so as long as they stay as they are.

I don't see anything regarding forced vs NA in these classes. Plenty of us that are supercharged and are still very much daily drivers.

So I can put a blown 572 in my T and run Model A's with a sbc/single 4barrel and that's fair, bullshit!! Look at Day of the Drags and Texas Thaw classes, I know this is the HAMB Drags but is nobody even trying to group cars evenly. Power adds should bump to next class and sbc light cars should not have to run bbc light cars, etc.

Yes you can.. but that sound like a real expensive way to get a hand made trophy.
I think you may be confused as to how the Hamb drags works. The class eliminations are the last thing we do before we go back to the hotel.
We race whoever we want all day.
The Thaw works a little different. You show up to race in class eliminations. If you lose the first round you wait or watch untill its over.
I have had fun at both events and I still prefer the Hamb drags.

Well Bill, from where I'm standing, you sound a lot like one of those guys. You know, the ones that bitch about Good Guys overlooking your numbers car.
You're seriously worried about an award? Really!?
Who gives a rats ass! This isn't a serious drag race. I am surprised that there are now two of you that don't really get what the HAMB Drags are all about.
Class wise, if Ryan wanted to he could split up each class into blow/unblown classes. I don't see something like that as a benefit to anyone other than trophy hunters like yourself.

Bill's a good guy and not a trophy hunter. I think he is more "confused" than "doesn't get it".
Bill, Pooch spelled it out pretty good. This is a different event, even different from the Thaw and DOTD. You spend all day searching out friends, friendly rivals, cars that run close to yours, etc. to make passes with. Or, you just go through the staging lanes and try to better your own times. That's what I mainly do. At the end of the day, you make one more pass that is recorded for your "class" and Ryan decides who gets the trophy.
That's right, Ryan has the say so on who gets the trophy. The timing lights don't decide. Sure, he looks at the slips to decide. But he also reserves the right to give the trophy out to not the car the went the quickest. That keeps everybody a little more honest about classifying their cars. There is no sense sandbagging to get in a lower class because, in the end, it really doesn't matter.
Is it a race? Not really. There are no brackets where the winner goes on and the loser in done. Everybody will get the same number of passes. It's a real turnoff for some hotshots that think they are Joe Racer to have it set up this way. But it pretty consistantly the most fun I have with my car every year.
Edit: Just so it's not misconstrued. Ryan isn't cherry picking the winner of each class. It's more about "Please leave your tubbed, modern race cars at home" than anything else.
Bill, can you imagine how much time and staff it would take to organize that.....the only other alternative would be dial-ins and I doubt half of the participants know what/how that works and the other half doesnt care.
I just hope everyone can help keep the track clean....that would be the best thing for all of us.

Thanks for sticking up for me Buzzard. I didn't understand that it was " let's fuck around day at the strip". Now I know it's just havin fun grudge matches etc. You should be able to tell my car has won many a trophy at Good Guys. This also make sense because it's only one day, some events are 2 day and alot of the fun races happen on day one and finals on day two. Thanks for all your help even though you had to knife me a couple of times. I'm with you, us new guys are always getting you fired up with stupid shit and it's fun that's hot rodding.

Ya know...I think we got off on the wrong foot here. I'm all about having fun and meeting people to make friends. As far as drag racing and hot rods I've been around long enough to see both of them go full circle.....Hell, I was probably building and racing hot rods when you were a twinkle in your old mans eyes. MoKan has been around since '62 and I live about 30 miles from there. Don't tell me what drags are all about.
I think it's really great that Ryan chose MoKan to have this event. My hats off to him!! I look forward to this event every year....alot of it reminds me of the day!!
So when you see the purple and white Henry J don't look down on me just because all the rubber is inside the fenders. Come by and say hi.....and lets enjoy the sport of hot rods and do a little heads up racing! :D

I have much more drag racing blood in me, and probably a bit older than you give credit for. Let's just say our old family Super8 films were not of picnics and weddings but the Winternationals at Beeline.
Wrong foot, maybe so. I'm not an angry guy, really! I may come off as one but in reality I'm just blunt and to the point, not one to sugar coat everything to a bland PC discussion. But you have to understand that myself and a few others that have been to every single HAMB Drags are going to get a bit defensive, maybe a bit offensive to those that want to change up a "tradition" that we started.
