View Full Version : New to HAMB and restoration!
62 Monterey

I'm from Iowa and have always wanted to restore a classic car. While Patrolling at work Thursday I came across a 62 Mercury Monterey Sedan parked in an alley with a for sale sign. I really liked the flat roof and the styling of the chrome. I drove by again on Friday and purchased the car for $500. I am looking for help from other Monterey owners and anyone else who can point me in the right direction for parts and pointers. Thanks!

Where in Iowa are you?
A 62 Merc is a fairly easy car to get mechanical part for. Much of the sheetmetal is the same as Ford (like floors and lower patch panels) so it's available.
Is it a small block or an FE engine? It should have a Cruiseamatic trans which is a neat piece if it's working (it will have D1, D2 & 1) on the shift indicator.
I think there is a yard in Burlington that has a couple 62 Mercs.
Welcome to the HAMB!

It has the 352 motor and I believe the cruisematic tranny. It does run and lot drives but the drive shaft is bend because the previous owner bottomed it out. Thank for the info.

I'm from Council Bluffs, IA right across the river from Omaha, NE. I'm a Police Officer and I found the Merc while patrolling. It may be a year or two before I get started on the restoration but I am hooked now on locating parts and where to buy them. I dont know if I can wait that long to start. Looks like l'll just have to work more overtime.

No need to wait 2 years to get started. There's always something you can do here and there on the car that will contribute. But looking for needed parts IS actually starting on the project.
Welcome.
