Those of you who have sold motorcycles, where did you get the most success? There is the Auto trader, online, Giant Nickel, newspapers... which worked best for you?

cycletrader! sold my shovel the day after the ad came out. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

IMHO ebay seems to be flooded with harleys and most never meet the reserve.

I sold almost the exact same cycle (2002XL) in about two days with Auto Trader. It's a popular bike that will sell easily anywhere.

ebay does not work as good for bikes. but if you took the whole bike apart and listed everything on ebay you could get twice the money that you would get bids for on ebay

Iv'e sold two on cycle trader with good luck. Just be careful of the rip off where two guys show up, the driver waits in the car, the other guy shows you money but holds onto it, you let him test ride it, and they both take off, you loose a bike. Nobody takes a demo ride without me holding on the the Full sale price we decide on, then if you wreck it, It's yours. I would say Cycle Trader as well. But I think eBay is good for getting it noticed and hopefully by someone local to you.

If you live in or near a large city, then I have also had luck with advertising in the bigger newspapers.

Hey, not to derail the thread but what do you all think is the ballpark going rate for a 2000 883 sporty? I have a guy offering me one and I'm not sure it's as a good a deal as it seems.

Cycle Trader, sold in about a week, but get the listed until is sells option, if you have it at book value.

It may take a while and it's something like $29.99 for 3 weeks or $39.99 for however long it takes, If you have to list it for 4 weeks before it sells it'll cost you the $29.99 again. They also list it on the Cycle Trader website.
