I was wondering if someone could take a minute and explain to me what the difference between a A and a duece is please. I have tried to search for this post before but could not find it. Or tell me a manual I can buy to get this info needed so that I will have the correct knowledge.

"Duece" is a term/slang/nickname/what-have-you for 32 Ford. So I guess there is no difference. Kinda like geometry, 'a square is a rectangle, but a retangle is not always a square' (or something like that, it's been a long time). 'A "duece" is an "A", but not all "A's" are "dueces".

Sorry if that confuses you even more, and who knows, maybe I'm wrong all together?! Haha! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I kinda figured that a Duece was a 32 but I dont know when the T started and the A started or when they all became coupes? I just don't know how to reconize them?

A deuce is a 32, an A is 28-31. Mike

thanks for the info. But how do you tell them apart? What are the differances?

The real difference is $20,000 and up. Mike

lol.. Is that the only distinguishing mark is that one has a visor while the other does not?

the frames is another difference. the A frames are somethin like 4 inches tall and the deuce frames are 6

Frame on a model A is hidden beneath sheet metal (splash aprons). The 32 frame was manufactured to be seen and is incorporated into the style of the car. Model A's have a "boxy" body, 32's are more rounded. Model A's have a radiator surround wih the radiator clearly visible. 32's have a real grill shell with grill bars. Model A's had a gravity feed to the carburetor (gas tank incorporated into cowl). 32's had a fuel pump and gas tank between the frame horns at the rear of the car. Model A's had 21 inch (28-29) and 19 inch (30-31) wheels. 32's had 18 inch wheels. Model A's were all four banger engines. 32's had four bangers and the first V8 Ford engine. 32's had a longer wheelbase. 32's are really a very different car. Go to the library and look at some books or Ford cars. Look at www.mafca.com (http://www.mafca.com) for model A info. Look at hot rod magazines. Do some research. Have fun.

ok but if there were a Duece and an A siting side by side how would you tell them apart? Is the cowl on one different than the other? Boby lines different? Are the grills the same? By the way I really dig your avatar.

the cowls are different because the A's have got the filler cap for the gast tank, while for the deuce theyve got the tank in back, and also the grille shells are different

ok this is bothering me. Not any deuces are A's. I guess there were very few rare 1932 model A's, but most people (vast majority) dont even know that. The 1932 ford we call a deuce is not a model A. Its a model B.

As far as differences, youll just have to find pics and you will learn. Most everything is different, including body lines and grille shells.

its for questions and suggestions for the board. Like:

"How do I post a picture?"

or

"I think the HAMB would be better with a ............."

this kinda question goes in the main message board

on the "Main Index" you can see a small definition of what each forum is for.

hopefully this helps you

I keep "pushing" this site, Carnut .com what I mean is its a bible for vintage cars, spend about 30 min or so look at Index of pix. look for Ford and look at the years soon you'll be able to tell the diff.

look at the right one #1 there is a sunvisor on the A the 32 didn't have one #2 subtle difference but the quarter windows are different even though they are both chopped the 32 has a distinctive 1/4 window. The pix is a little confusing, but in time you'll be able to spot it right away, FWIT I've been around these cars for over 40 years your eye will soon spot the difference

Briggs, you are right that a FEW '32 Model 'A's were built, but the '32 with the NEW '32 body style introduced March 9th and were on most dealer floors by April 2nd. and with an improved 4 cyl engine was known as a Model 'B'.
The NEW '32 with the new V/8 is a Model 18.

briggs&strattonChev

cool lionheart, I always thought that the model B engine was the V8? You sound like you know what you are talking about though, I trust ya.

Thanks

briggs&strattonChev

the V8 is called the model 18, or the whole car with the V8 is called the model 18?

Lionheart

Hey Briggs, ya, except for the FEW Model 'A's produced in '32, the 4cyl's in the NEW body style were Model B's and the V/8's were all Model 18's.

The Model B 4 cyl had a different carb and had a fuel pump, as was mentioned before, the gas tank was NO LONGER in front of the winshield, but was in the rear.

The '32 V/8's out sold the 4cyls allmost 3 to 1.

Ford quit the Model B 4cyl in '34 as nobody wanted them anymore.

And NO, i'm NOT that smart, but i have a damn good book.

knuckledragger, I see youve been to the CARHENGE!!! I went there last year, kinda odd

the guy that lives nearest to it hates the carhenge, we talked to him and he said when he built his house he made it so you cannot see the carhenge from any angle

lol, some people worry about odd stuff
