Hey all,
I am wondering if anyone has done this or may have a good way of doing this. I am building a old time hotrod that will have lakes style headers ending just around teh cowl and i really dont want to put any down tubes on running to mufflers underneith, but am not sure what to use as a baffle within the pipe that could be easily removed for whatever the occasion was that you felt you needed more noise, yet still muffle it good enough not to get busted by the local law enforcement who really doesnt like loud modified vehicles... Does anybody know what a guy can do for this idea??? My headers will be the typical lakes header kit from Speedway. Any help woudl be greatly appreciated.

Take off Eh? I am doing the same thing - someone posted about this earlier this week and I copied this link from it.

These inserts are supposed to do the trick - I just got done half welding up my speedway lakester kit. It supports itself now! woo hoo
I would be curious to hear these - I think they are still going to be loud as hell

Doesn't speedway sell the corkscrew baffles also? There is not much room for anything more, and I don't think those quiet it down too much.Maybe a circle-track muffler would work. ???? Sparky
i drilled a big hole in my blockoff plate about 2 inches and then welded a pre holed/drilled exhaust reducer onto the plates .i then managed to extend this with a pair of harley baffles then wrapped them in glass matting with wire to hold the matting in place .job done not too loud and not to quiet either...........Marq

Hey if i could actually get away just runnin a zoomie or something without gettin busted i would be the fuzz around here is pretty crazy lately with there "opinions" of what they consider too loud to be is. But you have to be able to remove whatever baffle you put in easily as there is always needs for buzzing an underpass with pipes open or just deafening some dude with the stereo blaring ya know...HAHAHA!!

When you are buzzing that underpass. make sure there isn't a guy on a petal bike down there. Because you know what will happen. LOL http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i had seen some company that makes a lake style header that has a second pipe that goes back towards the engine and under the car by the firewall instead of down and under the frame.

Yeah I have seen that same look, but my goal is to eliminate that need for any kind of pipe undernieth as My sedan will be too low to be runnin any pipes under it. Want to use my space for more important things haha!
