Hi Guys,
A couple of guys came into our shop this week seeking advice on the construction of a HAMBster. There appears to be a lot of confusion here in Australia as to what constitutes a true HAMBster and what does not. I sure would appreciate clarification. Some of the questions we get are:
Is there a specific build criteria? or
possibly a cut off date after which cars and parts are not to be used? or
is it true that any cars, panels or parts manufactured pre 1964 are acceptable?

Thanks for all of your advice. We now have two projects underway in the area and perhaps a third if the blokes can put the necessary together. Both will be fairly simple builds, a early Holden 6 drive line in one and an early slant 6 Chrysler in the other.
As soon as we have all the bits in one place we will hang some photos up.:cool:

No photos of our HAMBster projects as yet, although the parts are coming together. The Holden 6 will have a 37 Ford sedan front end and a 38 Ford truck rear end while the slant 6 will have a 48 Prefect front end and a Dodge 83/4" rear.
Thought I might provide a little history. If I am out of line on this forum let me know, somewhat new to all this. We are a group of 5 blokes who live on Phillip Island who help each other out as most local do, we are not a club in any formal sense but do enjoy building up various hot rods and kustoms for the sheer pleasure of it. Although I do subscribe to the belief that any way you turn fuel into noise is a good way. I have included some photos of some of our current projects.
The 54 Morris started life as a 4 door, it is chopped 3", rides on a shortened and narrowed 56 Chrysler Royal chassis, an LH Torana front end and a 4 bar coil over WB Statesman rear.
The 60 model FB Wagon has a 31/2" chop, and the body modified to sit on the subframe of a 74 Plymouth Satellite converted to a full chassis car. Engine is a mild 360 cid driving through a 727 Torquflite to a B&W 28 spline
The custom chassis is from my own 32 Dodge truck street rod. The double step up chassis is designed to allow me, I am disabled, a full sized cab inside but have that Rat chopped and channelled look. Engine is a Hemi 265, with a 904 Torqueflite and 71 Chrysler rear on leafs.

Over the years we have collected a wide range of machines, machines that are usually long out of use and mostly found in the rear of factories in a sorry state, they can usually be picked up for scrap value or the owners are happy to see them go. Over say 4 months we can rebuild a lathe or shaper that will produce the level precision we need. The bulk of our equipment is pre WWII and they do take up a fair bit of space but we can produce pretty much everything we need in house.
