Hello all. I just wanted to introduce myself and my ride. I'm Tj, 22 years old, married but no kids.
I'm pulling grandad's old 34 Ford Pickup out of the barn. Its sat in there for the last 25 years or so when he got too busy to work on it. He bought it about 5 years before that in non-running condition but got it running by fixing the distributor. Then he pulled the body off and replaced the worn suspension and brake hardware with original type replacement. Welded in some steel plate to strengthen the frame, and painted the whole frame. He fabricated cab corners and returned it and the bed to the frame. Thats where he just kind of left off.
I'm intending to start with getting the engine running again. The water pumps are seized so they are first up for replacement followed by a new ignition coil as the one thats there is toast. The motor is not original to the truck. From everything I've read it seems to be a 46-48 221ci 59 block with 59AB heads produced as a replacement for the earlier motors. This assumption comes mostly from the info here: http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_specs-85to100mid.htm
The motor is configured to use 37-41 accessories as far as I can tell from matching what it looks like I have to item descriptions in the Mac's Antique Autoparts and Speedway catalogs. Once I know it still runs I intend to make some modifications like going to 12v, and adding an electronic ignition to improve drivability and efficiency.
I'm sure I'll have some questions as I go but ffrom the browsing and searching on this site there are a lot of smart people here with a wealth of information and experiences to share.
