Tool box latches are pretty traditional and really cheap

just dug - the toolbox latches are nice.

Where do you get them?

Local hardware store. I'll look tonight for the box. I think they were about a buck a piece.

What about using leather belts like on the old modifieds and race cars? I was going to suggest seatbelt latches like clark used on his trucks top but you would have no way of releasing them. How about a remote trunk release? They used them on some of the bigger chrysler cars in the mid 70's. later plmczy

ok its late so i hope this makes sence...i tried to draw a picture

hinge one side of the hood..

on the other side put a piece of tubing and cut a short slot in it

cut a peice of rod the same length as the tubing..drill and tap a hole in the piece of rod coresponding with the slot in the tubing..thread a small bolt in this...then weld a tab on the outside of the tubing so you can put a small spring between them

now put a piece in the cowl that you can push in and turn to lock...so that it pushes though and pushes the rod in the hood...

you'll need to put something small ont he side of the grill to catch the end of the rod up there

i hope the picture shows it to some extent

i just thought of this quick so im trying to get it out before i fall asleep

oh the screw hitting the tab will act as a stop to center the rod in the tube so you can open and shut the hood easily

if i run a hood im running dzus buttons or latches or straps...

good luck
