This thing just keeps getting funnier and funnier...

I posted a link to an eBay auction a few days ago, where this guy named "Drunken Sailor" was dumping his ex-wife's beanie babies to buy "tools and beer"

original HAMB thread (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB1&Number=199372&page=0& view=collapsed&sb=5&o=14&fpart=2#Post200084)

The beanie baby auction at eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3146042998 )

Turns out that "Taisha" (the eBay idiot who Drunken Sailor scolded in the original listing) was the very same idiot who bought the crap for $860! She discovers that a couple of the toys were "counterfeit" and tries to get the FBI involved thru 'Trader List' (some sort of online collector Better Biz Bureau). Here is the follow up... read in its entirety for rich, unbelievable comedy gold:

Ebay idiot goes after Drunken Sailor (http://www.traderlist.com/DrunkenSailor-SteveKaye.html)

BTW - I'm not morphing into a traditional beanie fanatic, I saw this story in the Wall Street Journal. If the HAMB had some sort of medal of honor for non-HAMBers, I would recommend 'Drunken Sailor' as its recipient.

That's totally absurd. Human beings are phasing themselves out with their stupidity..shouldn't this Beanie Baby idiot be doing something constructive?

I happily bought the Drunken Sailor a beer, BTW.

He says up front. I don't know and don't care. If you bid after that then it's all on you. The stupid bitch deserves what she got. I don't believe the guy was trying to screw her, so she screwed herself. That is the main problem with the world today. NO ONE wants to take responsibility for their mistakes.

This man deserves free beer. He was smart enough to put in the first line or so of his auction he doesnt care and doesnt know anything about them so bidding would be automatically be assumed at your own risk.
This definitely goes on the funny auction list!

funny how someone would need to involve the FBI over a BEENIE BABY... FBI should be catching real criminals, like kids who skate in a "NO SKATING" zone

humans suck, but drunken sailor rules!

how flattering that she thinks i know anything about law! AND how ironic, once again, that she asked me not to email her, just like the seller asked her not to bid!

yes Janie, the idiots WILL take care of themselves.

UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE!!! i emailed the dude and told him to stand is ground and that there are a bunch of us REASONABLE human beings out here who can plainly see that this lady was asking for trouble from the get go. she openly admited she thought they were fakes and then bought them anyway. and NOW she wants her money back. i say "eat shit bitch". whos to say she did'nt have the fakes allready and his were real. she could very well be the one pulling the scam here.

some peoples children, GEESH!!

i was just thinking (i know, dangerous thing to be doing) could be the reason this woman is so familiar with all these laws is that she regularly BREAKS them. i'm convinced this woman is the REAL criminal here and it is her NOT the Drunkensailor who is pulling the scam.

I did a quick search on the web and the elephant in question is worth ~$5K. You'd think she would have been a little more suspicious when she was able to get it for less than a grand with 25 others in tow.

At least the rest of us can enjoy the story.... Thanks for the update Zenor.

I sell on ebay all the time and hang out on an ebay seller discussion board.

The ploy of writing an auction description for a rare item and professing that you: Inherited it, Found it on the side of the road, Got it In a Divorce, Bought it in a box lot at an auction, Got it in the garage of a house you bought, found it in the trunk of a car you bought at a Police Towing auction, etc. etc., and that you don't know anything about it and are just putting it on ebay and if its not the rare item that some bidder thinks it is, Then IT'S NOT YOUR PROBLEM.....has happened a WHOLE MESS OF TIMES. Maybe the guy selling the Beanie babies was on the level, but when I saw the description all sorts of warning signals went up. If I collected those stupid things there is no way I would have bid on that auction...smelled like a big scam to me.

For all the people who says this guy should stand his ground (by the way, he is now selling "Certificates of Appreciation" for $1.50 so he can buy a beer...all the bidder gets is the certificate that you liked his humourous beanie auction...looks like he has sold a hundred or so already), what if the auction was for an original 1932 Ford Grill and he said that it was found in the rafters of a house he bought and that he doesn't know anything about car parts so don't ask...and it looks OK to you in the picture, and in emails he says it looks fine to him, but he doesn't know shit about cars or car parts, and someone you know buys it and it turns out to be some home made piece of crap with rust and dents and cracks and all sorts of other problems.

If you misrepresent something in an auction and send it via the mails, you can be liable for mail fraud. For all the boasting the beanie baby seller is making, if the Post Office goes after him and ebay goes after him (which they probably will considering all the publicity he has gotten) his lawyers bills are going to be WAY HIGHER than what he made on the beanie baby auction.

Those $1.50 Certificates of Appreciation.....this guy is smarter than everybody gives him credit for. All he is doing is selling you positive feedback for 1.50 each. I've seen people try to sell feedback on ebay one way or the other. This way is the best I've seen yet.

BigJim394

If he has to hire a lawyer, the lawyer will tell him to pull his auctions for his certificates of appreciation and to SHUT THE HELL UP, and stop saying anything to the press or posting any replies to message boards or talking about this matter in emails.
Of course this guy will probably tell the lawyer to go to hell, and the lawyer will say "OK, I'll leave and take your $2,000.00 (or so) retainer with me. Good luck finding another lawyer."

It's smartass guys like this who help to screw it up for legitimate ebay sellers. The fact that some of the beanies were counterfeit and that the buyer and the Post Office and maybe ebay are probably going after him, will probably make the news media, and I will keep meeting people who say "I'd never buy anything on ebay or over the internet....did you see the articles about those fake beanie babies? All that ebay is, is scam artists waiting to rip you off. You'd have to be crazy to send money to a total stranger."

If you buy ANYTHING from Ebay, you always take a chance of getting dicked over. I buy stuff from Ebay often and realize I gamble on the stuff I purchase. If you're worried it's to good to be true, DON'T FUCKING BUY IT!!!! I buy baseball stuff, that'd be like "I found this Mickey Mantle rookie card in my grandpa's attic..." I'll start the bidding at $10.00. If you buy it and it's bunk, that's your loss. I realize I can get hurt every time I bid, and yes, I hope not to get fucked over. If it costs lots of money and you can't authenticate it yourself, it's your gamble.

I don't know Drunken Sailor, I've never even spoken to him. I highly doubt he's an avid Beanie expert.

If a stuffed animal is worth $5k to you, you deserve to get fucked. Most of these dumb asses are the one who gained 100lbs buying happy meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the damn things. Yeah I got a few of these "collectibles" there in my kids room stacked up like cordwood with the rest of her stuffed critters. They are toys get over it.

You roll the dice you take your chances. Geez...if you're a grown adult you should know you don't get something for nothing. Apparently some people have too much money if they're spending over $800 on stuffed animals. No wonder our judicial system is a mess with stupid sh*t like this clogging things up.

By the way, as of today, he pulled all his auctions for his "certificates of appreciation" (they werestill running late last night, and had a few days to go).
I'm guessing he finally spoke to a lawyer.

he startd the auction at ten bucks wt no reserve.not a million

Big Jim do you really think he talked to a lwyer on a sunday morning. You sound like you are married to the lady that bought them. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Maybe he drank too much and gave up drinking.

She's the one that sounds fraudulent. There's no reson to need two Ebay names. He told her not to bid and she still did. She got what she deserved.

I think we should all get lawyers and sue the hell out of each other for damages and pain and suffering. Then NONE of us would have to work or take the blame for our own stupidity!!! Yeah!

Nothing makes me prouder of our legal system than the wonderful frivolous lawsuits and ability to pass the buck.

HillBillytheKid
11-03-2003, 02:43 PM
She sounds like a professional victim to me. Gonna sue for emotional damages, or whatever.

And if I were him, that certificate of appreciation profit would go to a lawyer fund, just in case, cause anyone willing to shell out 860 for counterfeits probably has 18600 for a crackerjack claims lawyer.
