Boys,

Any tricks out there that will help me mount a 1 1/2" (I think) early Ford (say '37) steering column/tube in the stock Model A steering drop? I guess I could have a round spacer made to take up the difference. Could I weld a new drop onto the bottom of the Model A cowl tank without blowing myself or my garage up?

I am planning on using the cowl tank since my car has a rumble seat. Thanks.

the late 1931 Model A had a column drop that bolted to the bottom of the dash rail. Repops are avaliable from just about any model a parts dealer. They also show up at swap meets all of the time.

I liked the looks of the original drop and its placement worked in my application. I just used a spacer around the column for mine. I tack welded the spacer to my column and blended it in with filler for a small fillet.
Good luck,
Jon

So do I! I was able to pick up an aluminum 1 1/2" spacer that will give me a little more drop.

I also wanted to use the Model A dash for I was able to pick up one of the 2 gauge panels that mount to the lower part of the stock dash.

Thought it was an unusal piece & lookes great with all that chrome.
