Before I put gas in the tanks I need to do all the holes for the tank flanges(bungs).
Do I need to put a vent in the top?

InPrimer-Whats IMO and why would you stay away from that car?
The cans are called NATO not jerry becouse of the filler. They are desinged to hold gas are they not?
Boones-Uh,no.

Hey LAKES as usual you only got one answer ( ROCKY) I think its cool besides arent reserves traditional?---FEDER
I think it's gonna look cool...Real Punk Rock!
You putting 4 wheel drive under it and a shovel rack on the side and painting it khaki and putting military serial numbers on each part of it?
It's gonna look like a fuckin' Jeep...
Which is ok for a Jeep.
And Ricky Nelson went down in a fiery crash, ah, the irony.

Not only do you need to vent, but if you use these and don't want to almost constantly hear the sloshing of the gas in those 2 tall narrow tanks, you should have either multiple baffles in them, or have that gas tank foam or expanded bronze type metal stuff (both designed for fuel tanks) in them that stops fuel from sloshing around.
What's the problem with getting a conventional gas tank or two fabbed, or going to a marine supply place and getting 2 rectangular purpose built fuel tanks that would fit in the space you have set up for them? The wall thickness of those tanks would be quite a bit more substantial that the NATO gas cans (and probably a lot safer).

I like it Lakes, I connect the two down low like a motorcycle tank, unless your hiding the nitros bottle in one! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was going to do that on the "T" I just finished. I have one that says US Army or something like that on it. I was going to use just one. I ended up using an original unvented early 20s "T" round tank. It leaks a litte. Oh well. Mount em good, vent em just because you can. Looks good. Dean

Deja vu, man. I inhereted some old military gas cans from grandpa's garage and just set them on the back of my bucket for temporary storage and thought they looked cool. Too bad I already had a spun aluminum tank. Oh well, maybe next car. Maybe a Jeep? Nah, they tip over.

Yeah, I got one that has U.S. on it. Been lookin for a second for just that idea, damn, another one I've been recently beaten to for my own lack of progress... FWIW, Since yer gettin to it first. I was thinkin to slice the bottoms out, put the fuelcell foam in with baffles to the filler side where it remains open to accomodate an up-n-down style gauge. Then I also figured to run an oval tube between the tank bases directly under the filler(open, not foamed)part before re-installing them and running the feed line from that underneath where it couldn't be seen. That way both tanks would feed down into the line simultaneously and I could put the gauge into one tank while leaving the other open for filling. Then hide a return line into the backside of one tank. Hope I said Anything that you hadn't thought of already...

Looks like you eather HATE the idea or like it,no in between,no gray just black and white, that's cool.
A lot of good ideas,thanks.
About the Jeep look, never seen a Jeep with the "cans" on the back used as the fuel source and setting 4" off the ground.
The spun aluminum tank is a safe choice and every where, like the beer keg on T-bucks from the 70's. I just wanted some thing different.
I like Pintos, owned two of them and would have another one.
As for the safity issue ,look at the car,it's a motor cycle you can sit down "IN",maybe a 1/4" of fiber glass for side inpact protection. If I get hit head on I eat the 292.
Rooster- I like your fuel cell fome idea, going to look in to it.
I was just thinking about the first guy that showed up at Bonneville with a "drop tank" as a race car. What did he hear. How about "rocky mountain oisters".Well maybe the last one is'ent a good idea.(ha-ha??)
Thanks to everyone for your replys.
