Hey everyone, new to your sight, I am rebuilding a 38 Chevy Long box. I have a 235 with hydraulic lifters to rebuild, was wondering if i can just put mechanical lifters in instead?

hi
yes you can , but you need to change the cam , the hydraulic lifter cam is not hardened enough for solid lifters ,,( it will deterriorate rapidly ), just get a solid lifter cam .

welcome and yes, solid is the way to go. and if you won't run that engine a lot, don't bother changing the cam, just check for wear when you take the thing apart. I mean, that cam will last for more than a thousand miles, you know
