I have been lurking around this group for a while. There is not much of a car culture here in Savannah. I'm working on a 65 Riv now. I plan doing a shaving and nosing it.And graft a 61 t bird hood scoop on it. Then some radir wheels with some redlines tires. Maybe go for a old redline hot wheel look for it. I have a 3 2 setup for it, but its does not fit the 401. But i have a led on a nailhead out of a 57 buick that should work. I plan on going to turkey rod run this year. And i'm always looking for someone to trade old pocket mags with.
Thanks,
Tim

Welcome aboard kustomriv, post some pics when you can so we can see what you're up to... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
If I'm reading this right, you're going to put the 57 motor in? You do realize the 57 motor is a 364 right? Why not just find a 3x2 intake for the 401 and sell the other?

Riv. We have a SMALL core of hot rod guys up here in Charleston. We do a hot rod lunch thing on saturday mornings. Not much but better than nothing...
There is a pretty decent show up here in November. Worth the 2 hour drive. Gimme a holler if you wanna go.
See ya, -Abone.

Always good to see another car guy from the south. As FlamedAbone noted, we have a small group of car guys here as our Sat Hot Rod lunch with about 5 to 6 cars is the highlight.. The show he mentioned is called D'o-In the Charleston' but is only open to pre 48... if you got anything newer then 48, well you get put on the back parking lot around here ( i know all to well)... but it still worth coming up for...
Whats the car scene like in Savanah.. any cruise nights or shows? not to far to drive...
I'll be at the Turkey Run also.. stay out on the beach at the La Playa (across from the nightly cruise spot)...

OK, let me get this straight - you're actually going to do a motor swap,
...and swap in an older engine that makes less horsepower and torque,
just so you can use an intake manifold???
You know, tri-power intakes for 401's are pretty common. In fact, I think Offy sells them new.
Maybe I'm missing something here, but wouldn't it be a lot easier to just get the right intake manifold for the motor you already have rather than buying & installing a whole new motor to fit the intake manifold you acquired? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I too would keep the bigger, newer motor. Even if you dont' get a tri-power for it, unless you just want "the look" and have a slow car, which would be kinda gay. But anyway welcome aboard and post some damn pics.
isn't it just a little die grinder work to make the earlier intake fit the later motor?

I wish it was just some grinding to make that intake work . The ports and the bolt hole not line up. The bolt holes are wider on the 401 and 425 heads. Plus i can get the 57 nailhead for 150 complete with tranny. Thats alot cheaper than about 400 for the correct intake .

Kind of an odd mix.. putting in a 364 in a 401/425 car. But I see alot more custom applications around for sale for the older Nailheads than the later ones. I guess I'm not the only one hoarding Nailheads or anything to do with em. good on you tho.. sure would like to see pics of progression.

plus...the '57 motor and trans would be a torque tube enclosed drive shaft setup, which would require the matching rear end...right?

...and, the '65 trans is a 3-speed 400, not a Dynaflo like the '57...seems like you're going backwards.

I planned on using the dual pitch 400,flywheel and starter on that 57 nh.

Look for the Rumblers area at the Speedway, see ya there.
If not, look for a guy with a Mexican beer and perfect socks in the muddy area of the swap meet on Sat..
Ok, now I know you're nuts. You want to put a 1957 364/dynaflow, which is an ENCLOSED DRIVELINE trans, into your 1965 401/TH400 Rivi so you can use a tripower intake? Got it. Just let me know where to pick up the 401, TH400, driveshaft, and rear outta the Rivi. After all, since you're going to go to enclosed driveline, you'll need the stuff from the 57. Don't want you to have any snags in your install now......nutjob.
