I'm in the Oak Forest area (290/610).
I'm sure there are a couple of guys from the Deer Park area on here (Aldixie is one).
Have you been out to the Niftee 50's cruise on Saturdays? It's always recommended if your new in town but maybe kind of far for you (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=347201).

There's also a cruise night in Pearland on Friday nights at the Home Depot on 518 and Dixie Farm road (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=290045&highlight=pearland).

Have you looked into Texas 'Antique' plates?
My understanding is they run $50.00 (on top of the regular registration) and are good for five years and you aren't required to have an annual inspection sticker. Besides, according to my forcast, it's never going to rain again anyway!

actually picked up some unregistered/unused Texas black and white plates from 1957 on ebay a few years ago and want to register it using them, but when I inquired at the local courthouse, I found out that using vintage plates would enforce a driving restriction on me, only allowing use of the car to and from events and to and from "maintenance"... don't see how that can be monitored, though, and I already have them on the car... we'll see which is the cheapest I guess...

I'm running original plates. There is always a show somewhere.;) Although the car has only been around the block a few times.

Some local guy's are trying to start up a cruise in Deer Park, they were over at the old Randalls on Spencer but have since moved to the church parking lot behind the Shell station at the junction of Spencer and Center.

yep, I noticed the cars at the church parking lot a week or two ago... may try to get by there soon; you're running "original" plates you say? well, how do you have it registered? what did it cost?

Cost the same as running antique plates. Take your plates in to the courthouse, I use the annexe off of Spencer. They will inspect the plates for condition and looked like they ran a magnet over them to see if they were original. I think it was $80 for the 5 years. I was stoked that it was registered. I got the sticker that you put on your windshield rather then the tag you put on the plate.

Then when you get home hang one of your plates up in the garage as you only need a rear plate.
