Since I'm up, I'll kick it off. This afternoon, a co-worker is retiring after 37 years on the job (lucky bastard!) With all the people around the country getting kicked to the curb, this is even more special. I moved from production into the Q.A. Lab after 23 1/2 years this past April. Paul took me under his wing and has tried to share as much of his knowledge as possible. I REALLY appreciate all that he has done for me.
Every morning, he comes into the breakroom and puts a couple of pieces of bread into the toaster (old, broke down)and then fixes his bowl of cereal. He usually forgets about his toast and it usually burns. This isn't an "old" thing, they say he has always done this. (yea, I know....why not get a new toaster?? These guys are tight with their money)
Sooooooooo......I made up this plaque for him and am going to stand up at his retirement party and propose a "toast!" Should be fun.......

Not exactly art--but a hell of a lot of painting! This wall is about 35' long and 8' high, and it's double sided. I've lettered it for the last 3 years, about every 3 months when the museum changes shows.

That's funny...
We have two pugs. Our male, Raoul is here at work with me and having his first birthday tomorrow. Our female, Amelie is going to be 7 months old in a week. She's Raoul's half-sister.
They are very cool dogs and I'm NOT a dog person (until now I spose) Scooter is the perfect name for a pug!

You guys are amazing.
FA, you're just fucking brilliant. Are you ever gonna run out of ideas?
Listen up, I can actually paint and draw pretty good, that's what I really wanted to do in life as a teenager. I'll post some of my work sometime.
It just seems that art fell by the wayside many moons ago for me.
Biggest regret in life....never taking advanced art classes, I was accepted to college, but pops thought I'd be better at selling shoes.
I coulda been something instead of a Florida souvenir peddlar.

Since it's Halloween, I'll post a few decorations I made for my sister's party. I used plywood, cut to shape, then mixed some bondo up with some Speedy Dry, both to stretch the use of bondo, and to give it some "rocky" texture, and sculpted some figures in relief.
Then I sanded/ground/drilled in more detail, and then mixed up some undercoat, and body shutz, for a nice grey color, and shot them all, Hides the 'wood' grain, and agian, looks like stone.
Then airbrushed in some "aging", rust, mold, and lettering, for more detail.

Hey, Nads, work at it from where you are now.
The picture of the Ringling Museum sign reminded me of my friend Groggy, and one of his buds from high school. G's friend was by far the best artist in his school; everyone heaped praises on his talent for any media he worked in.
After graduation, he went to school at Ringling, and just kinda freaked out. He was surrounded by so many talented artists, that for the first time in his life he had to really work at it, and he still wasn't as good as some of the people he went to school with. He left after a couple of years, never graduated, and never got into any real career, either.
Groggy got a degree in commercial design from a school that was only famous for non-stop partying and streaking (remember that?). He does high tech computer controlled printing processes, laser scanning and color correction. He goes over to Duke University every few months to take art classes just to stretch his skills and learn new stuff.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you don't have to hang your hat on your talent, but just work at what you enjoy doing, and make opportunities to learn as you go along.
Later, Kinky6 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Dan,
Gav carves those out of aerated cement. Really light but still appear like a natural stone. He doesn't have a website (or email that I'm aware of), but can be contacted by cell phone in Australia.......(I'll post his number tomorrow: don't have it on me!!sorry).
That big one (about 2ft high) can be added to a body, if so desired, with spear or torch included. Make sit about 4ft high.

Not sure whos it is. I did that tail light stancheon for Jeff the sales guy over at Hot Rod City Customs. Its his long bike, and from what I was told by him everything works better than expected on that bike. It has an SJP front with raked trees and is really easy to steer and turns sharper than you think a long bike can.
