We had our car club meeting tonight and it was unanimous to kill the current web page. Now it is in my wife's lap.
All the webpages she has built have been through her works server etc. so we are kinda sketchy on the FTP software.
Is there any that is easier to use than others? Steer me in the right direction.
OK, I'll make this traditional....it will be for a traditional hotrod website. There. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I've never had trouble with WS_FTP. There is a free-ware version you can get if you're using it for private reasons. It's simple and gets the job done.
Another you might want to look unto is CuteFTP. But I think you need to pay for that one... might be worth it if you like it better. Both are found on TuCows.com I believe.

OK, I found the CuteFTP site on the web but there isn't a lot out there on it. Sounds easy enough but there is prolly a good marketing mgr behind it.

Cute FTP, Ws FTP LE, even Microsoft frontpage all have the ability to ftp files back and forth. If you go with Ws FTP LE (my choice) make sure you sign up as a student, then you do not have to pay for any of it.

Once you put in the web address (or ip address for the site root folder) and your username and password, hit connect and drag and drop files to and from.
That is a quick and dirty way about it. But it should get you somwhere.

My brother and I have used Front Page 2000 for years. Its from Microsoft, and we have always downloaded the free trial for XX days. never had paid for it, just reinstall the trial anytime we need to change or upgrade, update.
Its easy as shit, its all click and drag, no typing.

i've used cuteftp, frontpage, golive and now i'm using dreamweaver..... all the programs have a menu where you put in your hosting account info and then it ftp's your updates when you drag and drop or hit the upload button.....for me....dreamweaver/fireworks is an expensive program but it really works better than the others and is easier to produce a nice webpage....for a basic webpage program that can get the job done frontpage isn't too bad for the price...but it is restrictive in what you can do and your web host has to be able to enable frontpage extensions for it to work....so you need to check with your host to see if they accept frontpage.....i got a bundle deal on dreamweaver about 3 years ago and i got fireworks and dreamweaver together.... i paid about $350 bucks but i've gotten way more than that back in use! they have gone to some dreamweaver MX something or other now.... not sure of the price.... Ryan should be able to answer this question better than anyone else http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

File Transfer Protocol
What it means,, ??? i don't know
what it does, well this is usually what you use to upload and download your website with. I use a mac so the best choice is Fetch software plain and simple
all you need id your FTP server address, username, and password

I use CuteFTP to upload all my ebay photos to my webspace. You also get a program to upload all your HTML for webpages with CuteFTP. It works well and fast and is reasonably easy to figure out. I recently upgraded to a FTP program that they offer that is a little quicker than their basic program. I think the basic prorgram costs around $40.00 these days (it was $29.95 a couple of years ago) and the upgrade cost me about $15.00.
They offer a one day trial for 99 cents. A lot of ebay sellers use CuteFTP to upload their pix. I tried using a shareware FTP program from tucows a couple of years ago, and it was way harder to use than the CuteFTP program, which I guess just proves you get what you pay for.

not sure whether it does root... not to confuse the situation more, but i usually use a software called cuteFTP to transer html and the image files associated with it.. i find the interface and tools to be extremely easy to use. example, taught someone at an old job how to use cuteFTP (uploading web files) in 30min, she had no idea how this stuff worked before hand.
$39.95 for the base version of the software

After researching, I don't think I will need FTP software.
I have Microsoft Front Page and I think it has FTP software married in with it. Sure am glad the old lady's work made her load it at home. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
