Hey everbody. I'm Flathead Pete. Been tryin' to get on for a while now, Ryan helped me figure out my compu-problem. (I'm pretty computer-illiterate.) Got a T-bucket with a Merc flattie-5 speed combo. Banjo rear end, suicide front end w/staight '35 axle. Juice brakes, split 'bones, zoomies (the wife loves those!) Been into hot rods since I was a kid. I am an assistant mgr. for Discount Tire Co. so now everyone has an 'old car guy hookup' at the tire store. Thanks.

Glad to see you finally found your way here. Looking forward to seeing you again at a HAMB breakie. I'll be the un-gay one there. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Welcome, flatheadpete
Did you have much difficulty hooking up the merc flatty to the 5-speed? Still gathering "lessons learned" from others before making an attempt at mating a Borg-Warner T-5 to my 8BA. What did you use for an adapter? Any pics of that hook-up?

I'm kinda late catching this "gay michigan HAMB" intro, but I feel obligated to pipe in here, since he is a good friend. To fill you all in on his car, it is real cool with some jive/interesting fabricating. The bucket has been dubbed "The Peter Beater." This guy is THE hookup for your tire and wheel needs, and has some cool ideas when it comes to hot rod building. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
hey, pete,
while i'll probably never want to do one, i'd still like to see pix of how you mated the merc to the 5-sp. that's an interesting combo. i got rid of all my flathead stuff years ago because i wanted more horsepower than an flathead could make on my budget. however, with the possibility of using a 5-sp i might get interested again.
did you have to fabricate/machine a lot of stuff or did you find off the shelf (read that "outta the boneyard") parts to make it work?
i've got a '41 ford parts car w/ the flatty still in it. just might have to find a place to use it.
oh, yeah, welcome to the world of the hamb.

pete!!! nice to see ya on here buddy...'bout damn time. bring that lil bucket of yours up to the shop....i wanna go for a ride.
and i think i know what wheels you're running...but i won't spoil it for everyone else....
the peter beater is far out....there is some crazy stuff going on with that car...from the bicycle bell fuel pump blockoff plate, to the unidentified donor steelies, to the mondo-shifter with matching steering wheel....you gotta see this thing.
denise...pete was in frankenmuth...if you saw the pics that hatch posted, he was the one being run over by the giant inflatable pt cruiser.

Have to warn all you HAMBers. I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL. DO NOT ATTEMPT ANYTHING I DO AT HOME. PEOPLE WILL GET HURT AND T-BUCKETS WILL TAKE WAY TO LONG TO GET DONE. Planned on havin' it mobile today. Didn't. Not really super confident in my own weldin skills for a driveshaft so I will have it welded (by a pro) tomorrow and will burn up some 18" (!?) bias plies by early afternoon. I met Denise, Donzie, Hatch, and a lotta other HAMBers in Frankenmuth. Hey JDubbya, checks in the mail!! 5 speed swap not for begginers. I was a begginer. It hurt build time considerably. Just ask any Flint guy on the HAMB. Offy adaptor, ford flywheel, Flattie pressure plate, long style throwout (Chevy), Chevy clutch fork, lots of swearing and a tool-maker dad to make stuff fit that isn't 'sposed to.

Man, the pics I have suck. this one is over a year old. I don't have a digital camera or even a scanner. I work on cars real good, suck at computer stuff.

Ant guesses at what the hell the wheels came from? Hint: two different GM vehicles. Actually quite common, if you know where to look.

Damn I wanna drive this thing so bad. I have no gauges ('cept for temp gauges but they're on the motor), no windshield yet, and it's probably gonna snow tomorrow anyway. I'm planning on a DuVall style windshield I found plans for in the tech section of the HAMB. This winter it will get that and i'm gonna put the rear axle behind the spring to stretch the wheelbase and lengthen the driveshaft a bit. (the tube part is only 1 1/2 inches long.)

Make sure the check is containing lots of zeros..??? This dude is a serious wind-bag isn't he, but he knows hot rods. Beleive me, he has talked me into spending way too much on my piles of crap. I'll bring the broom and dust pan for the trial run, breaking stuff is cool.

Pete, it sounds like you need a most recent photo. Must be somebody you know with a diggy camera.
About the wheels. I'm not all that knowlegable so I'm having a hard time coming up with 2 different GM cars that had blue wheels. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
But, they look good!

I'll have some updated photos of the "Peterbeater" this weekend, I am gonna get off my cheap ass and finally buy a digital camera sometime this week. The car is driveable now but is has some braking issues...none that is, gonna try to bleed them in the next couple of days. Look for Pete to post parts wanted, because his main goal is to get it "broke" in. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
