I just bought a wiring harness and got everything just about wired, the headlights and dashlights were all working just great and then i wired up the turn signal switch and then everything quit working properly. the headlights dont come on untill the turnsignal is on and they just flash along with the dashlights. so what did i do wrong

Assuming the point to point wires are where they are supposed to be, check your grounds for your lights.

I would check the fuses. Did you burn one?

Ha Ha...couldn't resist that one! Maybe he 'burned one' before he started hooking stuff up! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

"Maaaaan, like I think this is the way it goes, Dude...gimmie another hit!"

(Just funnin ya...I'd check grounds and be sure you don't have any 1157 bulbs in the sockets backwards. Then, recheck every wire...you got something crossed somewhere.)

save me the roach...

when turnsingals were installed, was this also the time when the flasher was install.the headlights & dash lamps should power together,so they blink with the siganls. making me ask if their power is being taken down stream of the flasher making them flash. do they flash slow or fast? fast flashing is a sign of an overworked flasher.power for your headlights should be drawn from the lightswitch not the fuse panel.. lightswitches have a circuit breaker for the headlamps .Have you ever replaced the fuse for your headlights?,remember hit hit pass.....

Is your body grounded to frame well?

Back up, unwire the turn signals and see if everything works fine. Then rewire the turn signals the correct way.
Should fix it.

Unwire the turnsignals like cadlights said to see if the problem goes away. Most of the time when I have lighting problems similar to what your describing it ends up being something not grounded well.

Did they send you the new style flasher (square) to use in the kit or the older style (round)?? I had pretty much the same problem. They had sent me the new style, electronic, flasher in my kit. I traced the problem to the flasher so I cut out the new style flasher and put in the old style (round). It cured my problem...maybe yours too.

Just a few questions for you first FORDOLE500...

What wiring kit did you use and is the turn signal switch and after market (i.e. clamps to the steering column) or an original unit?
