The answer to that is always going to be "someone else by tomorrow"

Other than that, do you mean fastest, or quickest or both or either, or fastest in either category?
Street legal, or strictly race car?
Any size engine or type of car?

Kilroy

If Duke doesn't mind, and since we had an ET thread a while ago, let's say fastest in MPH/KmH period.

Not over a given distance, not from any special start, just top speed period.

Also not street vs race specific,

Just the car (preferably the "traditional" car that brought you to the hamb, but I think it might be interesting either way) with the fastest top speed...

deuce roadster - that might not be fast yet, but has all the makings of very cool already!

my old bomb is pretty quick, on the drag strip it can do a minute in 30 seconds plus on the open road it's real economical...gets a full tank between fill ups :-)

Ahh I'd probably have the 2nd slowest car in all catergories...going by the photo above ha!

You'd think it was a Dodge pickup, cuz EVERYONE yells the same thing when they see it...kids, adults...and even that cop today...

"Does that thing got a HEMI???"

I think Sam's may be the quickest race car (with the Racefab prepped sbc) and Ryan's 38 may have title for quickest street car..

If Rocky can have the faster car in the 20 sec range, I can have the fastest barge...

Not finished yet but I'm building a RAT ROD '32 PICKUP 2DR 4wheel DRAG BONNEVILLE COUPE OVAL TRACK ROADSTER to sell on e-bay. Its going to have a Saturn 2nd stage booster for a starter. The engine is a SUPERSECRET (tm) 17 cyl (3,587ci) triple underhead cam OHV FLATHEAD that Germ had laying around from one of his aborted projects.
We're expecting ET's in the mid 2's at around 900MPH.
Don't even ask what the RESERVE is.

I have only seen a few cars actually move ON the HAMB.

two of the faster ones would be Sam doing his doughnut and

Ryan doing a short blast in a quiet nieghborhood..

'tween the two I'd hafta say Ryan.

but tell you whut, MINE feels like it's doin' about a hundred and fifty in the alley out back!

I think Sam's Ego Rama Roach Rod times beat Ryan's Mokan times.
But wasn't this big ass Mercury (Don't remember the owner) in the 12s.

Ryan

I'm pretty sure Sam has me beat now too...

That said, the '38 does have a few low 12 second passes on a similar motor with real slicks, open exhaust, and a pretty sticky track. Still - that was then, this is now.

It's no secret. RM bottom end is still in the car. I just changed cam, heads, intake, and carb in an effort to make it more streetable. It has worked to a degree and the car still runs good. My biggest problem is traction. At MOKAN I was lighting the tires till the 1/8 mile mark. Best time was a 13.26 at 114mph - that mph is pretty telling.

At the NHRA Nostalgia Drags at Thundervalley in 98, I ran a complete race setup with Barry Grant 1050 Dominator, Brodix X11 heads, my lumpy schneider cam, modern 8" goodyear slicks and ran something like a 12.10 or so. Traction was still a problem - we squirted nitrous a few times too just to make it worse...

my 62 Chevy II ran a traction limited 11.15 @ 124.8.
Since then I've got a little more traction (quite a bit really), taken about 175 lbs out of the car, and done some serious porting work on the intake.I haven't been back to the track since, but on the street I beat my friend's camaro that runs 10.85! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

weird thread,

Here's the closest answer that I can provide.

I haven't driven, but am in line to do so.
Ted has driven and posted on the HAMB as N49
Our best speed so far is 196.200 MPH with the old fart (my dad)driving. Incedently he had the left turn signal flashing for the entire five miles.

And an AVI of it leaving the start line (http://www.fsra.org/n49/2003/118-1865_mvi.avi)

Well, I was going to say something about the fastest truck but the Canadians put me to shame. My best in the quarter so far is a 13.10 but I think I should make it to the high 12's next summer. I do not think that is to shabby for a truck that can be driven to the strip and home.

OK, the Drag Bike isn't really a car, but I think I can top everyone. This is the Dempsey-Vesco "Turbinator" Streamliner. Team Majestic Racing (my crew) and Team Vesco buddied up to build this monster. The owner, Don Vesco, has since passed away, but the car is still around. Our Team is building a tribute-to-Don Vesco, 4-wheel streamliner powered by a turbocharged Hayabusa motor looking to go 315mph+.

The Turbinator has set the world record at 458.443mph.
