So after a grueling week of work on my parts truck I decide to brave it and make the first trip since the tranny was replaced. It's a long story of wrong tranny, returns, 1hr drives each way and crap like that. but finally the supposedly good cond. tranny was in and after a long list of other crap like brakes, electrical etc I got it decent enough to go last night at like 7:30. I was gonna bring it back to my apt about an 1 1/2 away from where it was. Half way there in nowheresville TX, the tranny slipped so I pulled off. once I got out it puked all the tranny fluid out of the bellhousing. STUPID POS! I had gone over everything twice before I left even the trans which had worked fine around town. I think I might just sell the crap and move on.

What kind of tranny? TH350? I know that if you overfill them, they will foam and puke on ya...then they usually find their level.

I slapped my old Pontiac together years ago and took it on a long trip up into Canada about two weeks after it was running. I got up there and stopped for a minute. When I put the tranny back into "drive" it wouldn't go! I revved it way up and it moved a little! I drove it another 5 miles like that to where I was going and parked it overnight.

Next day, I took it for a ride after checking the fluid level. I pulled into a parking lot and drove it in circles gunning the engine as the tranny slipped. After a few minutes, it jumped when I hit the gas and worked perfectly again! I put about 30,000 more miles on the car after that and the problem never came back!

(Grandpa told me to drive it in circles, both to the left and the right like that giving it lots of gas, so I did. Honestly, to this day I have no idea what was wrong or how that "fixed" it...but it worked! Grandpa knows weird things like that...he tells you to do something odd, and it always works out! Old folks are cool that way!)

(Yes, the trans in question was a TH350)

It's a '78 ford f150 with a 460 & c6. The freaking bellhousing is so big you could use it as a wading pool for the kids and it is a bitch to get out from under the truck.

WOW, had a simmilar situation with my 53, but to add insult to injury, I got a ticket from the police going home for driving with out (fill in the blank________) it was that bad, no rear lights, no ins, no stickers, etc.. Got home, trans barely made it, ticket, no place to fix it, lived in apt. and had just gotten out of UHAUL storage/garage.

Man don't get discouraged, if its not your daily driver, let it sit for a while and get back at, Ahhh I had 74 and 79 Ford, I love those truck, now i went with a little older (53 F100). Wish you the best of luck with that. Just imagine 4 months down the road when everything is fine and you'll look back and laugh at it...or curse, also helps
