WOW... GARY. That is amazing man. Thank you.

Clysdale nice work as well. Your art is extremely entertaining.

Just a Taste...
something I have been working on at lunch time the last few days
"Big Wave" Card Wallet. The wave is made from black stingray and white deer suede. The silk underneath will be used as the liner. The Kanji are the symbol for "Hakai" which translates as "Destruction."
-Most of you already know, but for those who don't:
The "Big Wave" symbol, is from a wood block print made in 1838 by the Japanese artist Hokusai. It is one of his 36 Views of Mt Fuji series. In the original, you can see Mt. Fuji in the distance underneath one of the towering white caps. It is not uncommon for this image to be used in Traditional Japanese tatoo work.

Hey gang -

I'm jumping in this week's show to let all you artsy types know about this year's Silent Auction at the HAMB Drags.

Starting last year, the focus of the event has changed a bit (for the better, I believe) and I wanted to make sure you're all hip to what's going on, as the artwork you folks have donated in past years has always been the most popular and sought-after stuff at the Auction.

In the first years, the Silent Auction was intended simply to provide some member-driven income for the HAMB in general. The proceeds went directly to Ryan - to be used however he saw fit.

Last year though, Ryan suggested they go instead to a HAMB member who might be in special need. Both Blacktopbudda (who I've turned charge of the event over to, primarily due to some health issues) and myself, thought this was a GREAT idea and something that would really add to the spirit of the event.

The proceeds were indeed passed on to a deserving HAMBER last year, but sort of after-the-fact. This time, we want to be sure everyone understands in advance just how worthwhile your contribution to the Auction really can be. It's no longer just a cool way to kick in a little payback to the HAMB itself, but a genuine opportunity to provide meaningful help to a fellow HAMBER who's somehow hurting.

Even though I've had to throttle back some with my involvement in the Auction, Blacktopbudda has allowed me the special honor of "hounding" you very talented people to participate this year by donating some of your work.

Yeah, it's a bit early yet, but before we know it the Drags will be just around the corner. So... It's time right now to make a mental note and either select something(s) from your stash of ass-kickin' artwork, or to begin work on something special just for the Auction.

I'll be following up with instructions about where to send your stuff, etc. Right now though, it's time to start planning what you'll be donating. Heck, I'm so excited about the prospect of all this, I'm actually gonna break out my long-lost art supplies (probably stuff from sometime before many of you were even born - LOL) and crank out something of my own to donate!

Many thanks to those of you who have supported the Auction in past years, and also to those of you who will be contributing for the first time this year. I know you'll do your generous best to put it over the top.

Take care all, and keep watching for updates.

...And now, back to the show!

Very nice work people. I have been a HUGE fan of this thread for a long time. every once in a while I try to contribute.

Most of the time, my work isn't even worth sharing. I think this time is a little different because of the story behind it.

So I was out in the middle of the gulf with my father in law. The boat motor died and we were being pushed out to sea by the high winds. In a panic Ken, my father in law, tells me to drop anchor. Simple command with a not so simple result. Being the rama jamma goof, I grab the first anchor I saw and heave it way out and into the ocean, only to find that the rope was not attached!:o

Luckily we were able to get the motor running and I was able to contribute this little scribble I did of our adventure. Thank god we can joke about it now.

Enjoy,
Biff

Wow what a great start to the friday art show. Gary,Britt,Sonny,Greg(RouhStock),pro-photo,and Norwell amazing work as always.

I started off shooting a survivor bike from the late 60's it was put into a barn in W.V in the late 70's and found a couple of years ago. The only thing changed on it where the bars and the carb the paint and chrome havent been touched.

I borrowed the lovely Miss V on her day off for these.

Well, thanks for looking ...... when I set up the weebsite, every name I wanted was gone. Looking for a name that at least hinted at hot rods, I tried Rat Rod and found it wasn't taken yet. I grabed it before it to disappeared.

Some stuff I did for a customer over the Memorial Day weekend:
A vintage suitcase painted to look like a salesman's sample case for his 49 Ford business coupe.
A vintage card table for use at swap meets.
A chemicals cabinet made from old wooden ammunition boxes hooked to a platform on wheels with a vintage vinyl top.
An old Auburn(or Sun)rubber 35 Ford panel delivery refurbished and lettered with his logo.

Guys! Guys! I almost missed the "Art Show" today. I was in the garage all day under the hood of my '63 Ford with a great mechanic, sorting out the wiring, examining spark plugs and trying to tame a too-big carburetor. So, after last Friday's art show, I started a new drawing, using Adobe Illustrator (only). It's a difficult, vector-based program that I've been trying to master since 1994 with v.1.1. So, enough words from me. Give me some feedback. I still need to "speed" up the background. . .

[ewt2,

great start on this rendering, reminds me of some of the things we had to do at Art Center a long time ago; it requires an awful lot of concentration to produce a real clean pencil rendering, and very little room for error,I salute you. Hope it finishes as nice as it has started.

it's more than ok, man it's fuckin' great, keep up the good work and keep posting it . It is great to see something different and original to go along with all the traditional hot rod stuff we see here; it compliments the other artwork nicely, in my opinion[ which doesn't count ahell of a lot] ,

Now that I've posted a quickie, let me say:

"Stranger In Town" man, wish I could "hear" this painting too.

"'65 426 Race Hemi" - can't get enough cross-sections. I have tubes full of Dave Kimball's.

"Kustom Kosmic Kowboy" If that's Wacom technique, do I see a hint of metalflake?!? WOW!

Britt8M, Can "hot dog girl" take a few steps this way or that?

Acrochicken, dig the chics, but seeing that bike at speed, storm clouds rollin in... extra WOW!

Palat, question: Is the '53 3D modelling or a Photoshop cut-out?

MindsEye, is your '56 Merc, like markers or Wacom? Impossible to tell anymore! (until I get to know ya'lls' styles)

WhateverWeber, Very believable deep, black, paint!

Clysdale, this art you do is so new to me; the cross with the skeleton couple, I stopped and stared for quite awhile.

ewt2, man, those black&whites are sweet and crisp. Film or digital?

Acrochicken, the slammed Imp is really well done (technically, too)

Buzznut, always enjoy seeing type-setting balanced with a car correctly (Rustmonkey Garage)

Squindo, man your style /technique is satisfying and unique.

57 Corvette ~ Bob, I'm new here too. You've photo'd some cars that'd be tough to not get right. It's the backgrounds that catch my eyes!

Bass! 3 days of block-sanding! I've been away from the spray booth too long. That's beautiful.

jjrodder, I like this technique in Photoshop, where I work backwards from a photo to find art.

Steve V, I had to stop and look up a '71 Holden Torana and your rendering is a killer revision!

fortypickup, tremendous, simple background. I kept waiting for a slide show to start up.

and all the pinstripers on H.A.M.B, men that's tremendous skill. And the sculpting is so far beyond me. Thanks for sharing G.A.N.G. Looks like Friday's over in just 30 minutes. Call it a day!

It's all 3D. Photoshop just to add the glints and the darkened border.
I got inspired by those green rodders from a recent Art Friday...

Awesome work everyone, i am proud to be in!

Hey Sambo, Thanks! ...and I wish I could say yes but that is not my work on the album cover. That would be a sweet gig to land!

Damn, What a FAS! I tore up a knee, been pretty much out of it for a couple days, then I come here and............Wow!! You guys all rock, but Gary C., you're killin' me. That is awesome. All of you regular artistic geniuses just kill it, and the newbies are bringin' some heat. Thanks to all of you for putting this huge bright spot in a dreary week. :)

Don't worry about it… just go with it. Several years from now when you can look back at this time of your life with 20/20 vision it will become clear to you… trust me.
