New member from Australia re aero engines

Hi folks,
Stumbled across the site whilst chasing some information on early Packard aero engines. The thread on the subject - aero engined race cars - was very informative. I'd like to get to know the HAMB experts in this area. Australia remains a great place to live. Fairly stable politically. Seems to have weathered the Global Financial Crisis fairly well, although some of us are worried that our local GM affiliate, Holden's, will get caught up in the mess in Detroit. Raining at the moment. My part of Australia, Southern NSW, has been in serious drought for years. Life goes on.

While there a heap of guys on here that share your passion, have a bit of a look around and you'll realise that we operate in a fairly narrow band of traditional hot rod-dom. Just try to realise when you post that some guys get upset if you are way off topic.

You should be fairly safe with V12 Packards, however.

Lots of aircraft and military guys here.

Understand your point about being off subject. Perhaps I should have been more specific & indicated that I'm interested in people who stuffed aero engines into race / speed record machinery. If these devices don't constitute extreme hot rods, I don't know what could. As a fellow Australian, you may remember an individual who raced a Lycoming Special at the 1961 Australian Grand Prix at Lowood, Queensland. I'm sure it was an air-cooled radial & it may have come out of a vehicle, rather than an aircraft. Apparently the handling was rather odd and it pranged badly. Driver escaped with a severe fright & car never ran again. Can't remember his name. Ern someone.

Lezza,google TNF or Atlas Formula 1 . theres mountains of really good info on aero engined cars in Australia without the bullshit attitude some take here.
Aero engined cars go way back to the 20's in WA .
