Is this even possible without major fabrication? i'm looking at a '60 catalina. great car, great price, but yup, it's got a post. really had my heart set on finding a HT pontiac, but this one is pretty nice.
So, has this been done before? CAN it be done?

Sure, it can be done...anything CAN be done...depending on your perseverance, time, talent, money and desire...having said that...changing a post car to a hardtop is best if you've got access to a hardtop parts car...you'll need windows, channels, mechanisms, part of the top and perhaps portions of the hardtop doors...IF you want all that stuff to work like the factory intended it to. Lots of work, but it can be done...

You are going the wrong way. The thing to do is make a hardtop into a sedan.

Where it gets tough, is with the windows and seals all working correctly. Finding hardtop parts would help, but the doors are different, the quarter glass, everything. If the car was produced in a hardtop model, then spend the extra time and money to find one- You put more money into this car trying to make it what you wanted in the first place.

Bomber is right, post cars make good customs, if you don't wanna wait just customize the post car. And cruise it.

ah, good info guys. things i hadn't thought about.
as for custom, that's the direction it would head. plenty low, bellfowers, astros, scallops, nice shave job, metal flake.... you get the picture. trying to bring a little bit of socal to rainy seattle.

Personally. I think a two-door post car sometimes look better than hardtops...it all depends on how you do them...and they are a lot more solid thatn a hardtop...toss up a photo of one and let the photochoppers on this site have a go at it...ya mite change your mind!

2dr or 4dr sedan? What's wrong with 2dr sedans?
Quite a bit of difference in the rooflines of 59-60 GM HT's and sedans. Sedans were 2" taller. If you're looking for a 4dr HT, most of them I've seen are the flattops like mine.

i've got some pics of the car i'm looking at, but they are huge, and i don't have the first idea on how to post pics here.
anybody have a profile of 1960 pontiac catalina 2dr HT and one of a post? be cool to get a side by side comparison, and then start photoshopping.

donnie, good to hear from you buddy!
all is well in seattle. the only reason i'm considering it is cause its a 60 pontiac(what i really wanted), and i sold the olds about a month ago. i ain't got no wheels man!
plus the thing just got painted a nice green with a pearl white top.
what's the good word with you? staying busy?

heres a post '61, best I could do
I've got pics on my work computer, will post tomorrow. Someone remind me!
Yes, I know they're Buicks. Yes, I know one is a 59 and one is a 60. Just shut up and look at the rooflines, since any 59-60 GM is the same there.
2dr post.

speaking in general i think you can do alot with the sedans, but then agaian you dont have to do much with some of the hard tops.i like em both.in my opinion ht's are more elegant, and posts are more ruff(but in a good way)
