anyone with a model a frame, i need to know how high the bottom of your frame rail is from the ground, right before it starts to taper up, (about under the engine) also, model a and duece frame guys, how high is your front spreader bar off the ground? any pics would also rule.

My car is blown apart for final welding and paint so no real help here- only time I measured was to make sure everything was square. Everything else was by eye. So don't let Snacky6 near my car with a ruler - I might find out my console is a half an inch off.

Ricky, I'll check my RPU and let you know. It's on a Z'ed in the rear A frame, and very low.--TV http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

A guy I've been chatting w/ about helping me out w/ some projects owns a Nailhead powered 29 Ford Tudor on an A Frame that sits exactly four inches off the ground (16 inch Z in back, suicide front). He checked the laws of the northwest and found that no speed bump around is higher than 3 inches (hence the four inch ride height).

Problem: 4 inches becomes three or so when the suspension compresses going over said bump.

Result : A whole lotta' Scrapin' goin' on.

6" for mock up, but will probably drop to five or so due to smaller front tyres, and spring compressing.rear kick is 13".
spreader bar is 9" as i have a 3 degree kick in front of the cowl, to get it low without suiciding. body will come down to bottom of rails too.
might need magnesium sacrificial plates considering the roads round here

lowsqire,
Do you have any other shots of that frame, perhaps from the side? How much of a wedge did you take out to get three degrees? Inquiring minds want to know. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Dont qoute me on the three degrees, thats just a rough calculation,I did it by slicing the rail with a 1.6 mm cut off wheel, down to the bottom rail, bending it up and welding, did this three times one inch apart, for a lift at the frame horns of 3". (one inch lift per cut.)you can kinda see it in this shot...

Ricky, checked mine with the big tires and no engine or trans, rad, water or whatever. It's at 8", and with headers and pipes as tight as I could get them, I wouldn't want to run it as a street car any lower. It's not much fun to drag everwhere you go.--TV http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

For a first time chassis build "all that work" doesn't even come close. It has '32 frame horns now and will be getting its "A" front crossmember (moved forward a bit) this weekend hopefully. Then on the the "A" rear crossmember, banjo, etc...

Funny you mention a kit. My neighbor just had a Street Beast dropped off the other day. Neither of us understands the other.

The grille shell is a Whippet - missing its bottom. Donated by HAMBer Overspray.

Good luck on yours.

lowsquires frame is what I was talking about.
if you can angle it under the body though,

it is hard to detect.
