Hi folks, I've been reading HAMB for quite a while and enjoy the tips and have used a few.
I'm rebuilding a '64 401 nailhead for a hot rod of undetermined origin.
I'm really trying to save the original 4 barrel Carter ABF (carb# 3633S). The issue is the throttle plates (both primary and secondary) have frozen shut from years of sitting. I've taken the carb apart and tried carb cleaner from the auto parts store and it cleans well but will not free up those throttle plates. I've used various different penetrating oils but still no luck. I hope some one has an old family recipe to cure this, the rest of the carb really looks good. I've heard of boiling a carb but I'm rather reluctant to do that because I do not want to scrap it, or make a big mistake. I guess at this point I have little to loose... except cash which I don't have for this project. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Soak the shafts in PB blaster a few days then tap them side to side, that usually works for me.Just try not to force them or the shafts can twist and even snap.

There is a product called KROIL and it is great. If you can get RAW iodine, that works also.
