F. again i really like how your 55 sits.instead of buying all the stuff to do it i figured i would see what you guys did .im sure id put everything on,and it wont be the way i want it.how low do you think i should go with the lowering blocks?in your opinion.pictures would be great.chevy guys might help im sure there ride height, and look is simular in 55-56.im preety sure my fronts have been cut already, but ill probly go more.i dont care at this point how it rides in the front.i can dick with that later.its going to start getting tore into this winter.394/hydro http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif,and getting this this lowered. then painted in late spring early summer.

The lower arms are pretty big, could easily fit a decent sized bag in there, you'd just need an external shock mount.

These two cars are on air, yah ignore the billet...

the white one has a 9" in and a 383 sbc, the black one is all original..

The white one is owned by a guy who runs a paint shop..

Because everything on my car needed rebuilding ( and I mean everything ) I junked the whole front end and am halfway through doing a MII clip.

If you need any resto parts check out www.fusick.com (http://www.fusick.com) they have a pretty big catalog..

Both of those cars were in HotRod or GoldChainers-R-Us (can't remember which one....).

There is a '55 in my town that has been lowered (w/o bags)to the stance of the cars above. I stopped to check it out last year because I wanted to get my '56 to the same stance. Well, turns out that all they did was put lowering blocks in the rear and made up blocks for the front A-arms. You can get the front suspension lowering kit from MOON (I think) for about $70, BUT.... If you have access to a Bridgeport, why not make them your self?? Well, the blocks under the '55 were about 3" tall, and looked a bit unsafe to me, I wouldn't make them more than 2".......

Hope that adds to this post.

My 55 Olds sits about that low without bags, and I've driven her all over the country! 100K+ miles.
De-arched springs in back, with 2" lowering blocks to finalize the ride height. The front coils were cut 1 1/2, but then later, when I chopped it, it sat too high, and cut another 1/2 or 1 coil out, can't remember. Olds' have a nice high kick-up in back, so they ride nicely even when pretty low. And the stock front end, with all those coils cut out, rides pretty good, too. Tall tires do scrub the inner wheelwells, when the steering is turned to lock.
I'm at work, and don't have pics to post.

The black one was built by Sonny of Kansas City. Usta have yellow painted wires on it and was sold to a guy named Coffee in Warshington state. Had a nice talk with him at Puyallup Goodguys in '97-98 or so. I think Sonny just cut coils and used blocks in the back. Musta been updated with bags by the new owner....

The cars were in Custom Rodder last year, may of been in other mags. A link to the CR article and more pics is http://www.customrodder.com/features/0209cr_modern/

The black one is full of stereo gear, young guy owns it.

The back will go that low and still not use bags, I was going to de-arch my springs and have an eye reversed then use a 1-2" lowering block, but am going the bag route because I have a steep exit to my drive to get out of.

Both the cars used to run steels ( there was a pic of the black one in rod & custom a few years ago ), big rims a recent addition.

There was a 2 door '98 in rod and custom a couple of issues ago ( September? ) the one that had Chris Titus '56 Chevy in it. That car is running wide whites and lowered, everything else stock.

Just keeping stock of the rocket reference material...

I hear ya Foiled, I'm thinking some new lowered springs for my front with Gas shocks, as my springs are not up to it... I took a ride in a 64 galaxie earlier this year and it upset me no end about the ride outa my Olds !!!!
Oh and the rear needs re-doing too, my springs sit almost flat at the back... not good.

erdy - dearching the springs means they are heated and the arc is made shallower.. reversing the eye means you heat the end and bend it out flat, then roll the eye under the spring instead of on top. You should be able to find a forge to do this for you..

Dang, those are a couple'a wild Olds's.

Hey, does the stock leaf spring sit on top of the rear housing? If so, why not just mount it underneath the housing and leave the arch in place?

Or does it mount underneath already? Come to think of it, a '62 Ponch mounts underneath... OK, I'll shut up now... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hey, Erdy, sounds like that thing has gotten under your skin, LOL

No, the stock setup means the axle sits on top of the leaf spring, if you put the axle under the spring the car would sit higher.

Now my turn! I want both the top and front hood ornaments, they were missing from my car. I know fusick sell em but they are $$$$, found some on eBay but always on the lookout.. any ideas?
