Haven't felt much like posting this last few weeks.
Here is a recent piece I did on the box of a machine tap and die set I bought a few months ago. This piece is around 24" x 18" and I am pretty pleased how it turned out. Geoff aka Whodaky

It's getting toward Xmas, so it is time I worked on some cards for my friends. Last year I bought a bunch of cards and did a 'whodaky' on each. I called them the faces of Santa's helpers series, as each was done as a facial characture. So this year I have decided to do the same again, as the one's last year they went over so well. I have done 17 so far and have a number more to do. I will only post 3 today and if anyone wants to see more then I may post others another time. A number are very abstract and distorted. Geoff aka Whodaky PS Yup santa's got some pretty weird looking dudes lending a hand! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's the striping I did on a bass for Keven of 'The Susans' (aka 50Ford here on the HAMB)...I need to get better (color) pictures and some close-ups of the detail. I'll post em when I get em...it's red and white striping on black.

These are my first ever efforts, so don't laugh too loud.
I found that pulling the lines wasn't too hard. I put that down to years of building model cars (I knew it would come in handy some day!) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
My problem is, I have no idea where I'm going in regards to the design. I guess I'll figure it out one day...some day... hopefully http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

This one was done with HOK tengelo pearl base, then all the graphics were done with HOK Kandy concentrates and pinstriping urethane. I use Spies Hecker for most of the artwork. But use the HOK when needing transparant effects.

Here's something i sketched up this week for a t-shirt design idea for one of my skate sponsors and the clothing company i ride for... it's called "Sessions" clothing. I presented it to them yesterday and they really liked it, so it will become one of their designs in the line in the near future:) Super stoked and will post the final product when it's finally released...it may be a two color!

how's about some sculpture??
this is a console i built for a 97 tahoe that went out to SEMA.
the owner races in pro-comp, so i asked him for some parts to incorporate into the interior. a coupla' JE pistons and some crower rods and i had what i needed. you can look down thru the plexi window and see the pistons and ring grooves. it looks really cool in person. the fuel hose has the air lines run thru it to his air pressue gauge for the bags.
the console follows the paint scheme on the outside of the truck. the rear part has a mirror on top of it, to reflect the amplifiers installed in the headliner. nothing says class like some polished up big block parts. hope ya dig it.

Thanks guys! I love working with symmetry, which is one of the reasons pinstriping appeals to me. Just a little trickier to do with the geometric designs. Hmmm, would be fun to pinstripe a kaledoscope effect... I'm also thinking of attempting some Celtic knotwork.
I've got the drawers and top space lined in red velvet... and I'm thinking of a way to line the top to put some pouches in to store smaller items.

Thanks, it's done in 3d studio max.
Would Celtic knotwork be that graphic design with the intertwining bands? I've seen that before on a t-shirt, it's a great look.
Steel Phoenix
11-22-2004, 01:38 PM
Something like that. There's a lot of banding designs that would make interesting stripes, and there's knotwork motifs that might work too.
Here's a site that has some imagery from the Book of Kells (http://www.snake.net/people/paul/kells/). Neat stuff.
I tried playing with 3d Studio Max once. 3d design is the one thing I haven't been able to grasp very well... I really respect the people that have the ability to do it.
