As you can tell by the topic, I have a '52 331 hemi and I just noticed last night that a chevy small block water neck will fit on the intake manifold.

I was wondering if there is a readily available late model water neck that will fit on the water pump.

Also, I measured what I thought would be the length of belts I would need by wrapping ropes around the pullies and then tying them off. I brought them to the store and found belts of similar length, but when I got home the belt were way too small.

This may seem trivial but how can I ensure I get the right length belts next time?

Any and all help is appreciated.

use wire or something that doesn't stretch for better measurements and thermostat housing are pretty universal. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

For belts, use thicker rope. I've found that thin rope will sit in the bottom of the pully, but that's not where the belt rides. Also, stretching can be a factor. An old heavy duty extension cord works well, cause it's thick, and won't really stretch much.
