Well she's well and truly stripped now. All the chrome's off, headlight and tailights too. I started working on the rear pan because there were a lot of cracks. I went at it with a wire wheel. Damn it to hell, I had bondoed the piss out of that panel. I don't even know why. I strengthened the whole pan with a wire bead edging and cut it right to fit nicely against the '56 Chevy wagon bumper. It took half a quart of slop to get it right this time, not one gallon like before.

I took out the cracked windshield this evening too. Man it's a horror story behind there. One week before Halloween, I guess I got tricked.
There are several little rust holes, nothing structurally damaging but many hours of work are ahead of me.
This rust wasn't there 13 years ago, it's there now. I knew the seal leaked for a long time, I should've fixed it then but I didn't, now it's too late.

So in conclusion, time's dragging on and there's no end in sight for my perpetual '54 Chevy sled project. But I'm still hopeful she can be painted by February.

A word of advice, make sure your windshield pinch welds are in good order and make sure your windshield is sealed tight with lots of urethane sealer. Silicon doesn't work worth a shit. Do the job right the first time or don't bother doing it at all.

Wish me luck, I'll post pics soon of her in her nakedness.

I haven't given up hope, but I'm getting close to it.

I need an infusion of HAMB enthusiasm.

YOU CAN DO IT NADS!!!

Like we say in the shop..."It's the price you pay to be cool". If it wasn't a lot of work, everyone would have have a neat old car.
Besides, you're a "HAMB hero". Or is that some kind of sandwich? You've got a lot of young guys looking up to you!

"Once begun, it's half done!"...

Just plug away at it, and before you realize what's happening, you'll be ready for paint. Narrow your focus to what you're working on at that particular moment, and don't let the magnitude of the whole project bog ya down!

Nuttin' to it, but ta DO it, right??? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well I took a pile of 1 1/4" steel tubing home and made some railings for in front of our shop. We're getting shaken down by the ADA, or lawyers representing the ADA. Lookit I'm all for making things easier for those that need help, but their demands are bordering on Jessie Jackson territory. I'm telling you straight up it's not about helping the disabled, it's about suing business owners. This fucking attorney's job is to travel around and look for lawsuit worthy individuals. There doesn't even need to be a legitimate complaint from a disabled person. The summbitch is from Miami fer cryin out loud.

I got one railing finished so I took it upon myself to spend a couple of hours on the clock fixing the windshield rust.
It was a chore but not half as bad as I thought it would be. Basically it involved making itty bitty patches and welding. I used trusty old welding rods for the smaller holes.
The grinding was the hard part. I used a worn down cut off wheel to get into the tight bends. It came out looking really good. I'm gonna POR15 the whole flange area and hope rat bastard rust stays the fuck away.

I'm sorry about complaining, I really was a whiny bitch on Friday night, post twelve pack blahs were slapping me hard.

You guys with garages are so lucky, I'm a victim of rain and darkness (no pun intended).

Nads, now you see why there aren't so many cars like ours here. This swamp state destroys in progress work. On a related note I blew up the motor in the Ranchero, so now I'm planning on stripping it down and finishing it.
