Is this a Murray Champion (pre-1959) or a Murray Flat-face (post '59)?

My Father-in-law bought it ~1961 for my wife. As soon as I fabricate/find a trunklid, it's getting the DP90/Mexican blanket/red wheel treatment http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I would say its a pre 59, because of the single headlights. My kiddie car poster shows all the 50s with single headlights and the 60s all have dual headlights.

Question #1 - What makes you think it is a Murray? (Not to say that it isn't.)

Murray made a Dipside Champion (1949 - early 1950's) and a Champion (mid 1950's). Your grille and headlight area resembles the Champion as does the hood profile, fender wells, and bead rolls along the bottoms.

BUT... with all these similarities it is still very different. Mainly the body sides and taillight areas are VERY different from any Murray I have ever seen. It wasn't made after the mid 1950's I would bet. Looks like a Murray -kinda - but not exactly.

Could it have been a carnival ride car at any time before your wife got it? Maybe made in Mexico? I studied pedal cars pretty hard for several years and thought I had seen most all of them. Yours is new to me.

It has Murray hubcaps. BTW, it was purchased in Knoxville; Fountain City, to be precise.

61 Murrays had a simular body, but they had dual headlights. It looks like their circus car and the had a tail gate and rails on the back. I am looking at a poster of pedal cars. I'm not that smart. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
