Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum and need a little advice. I just moved to a little town outside of Las Vegas and ended up talking to a guy about doing some hot rod work in trade for a car I could toy with.
I have done some work with flatheads in the past, but never quite as minimal as he wants to go. The motor is the original out of a 49 merc. All he wants to do is put a bigger cam in it and leave the rest stock. When I say stock I mean bone stock. For a motor that has been sitting for god knows how long I really feel like this is an unobtainable goal. I am not trying to shoot down his ideas but I am also trying to be realistic with the guy. He is an old timer that can't quite hack the heavy work anymore so thats where I come in. From the research I have done it will take around 4-5 grand to make this motor into what it should be, but I don't think he will want to go that far.
I don't know... is this goal completely out of the question or what is everyones experiece with minimal flathead rebuilds.
Thanks in advace,
Chris
